Where would I see an improvement at?

All builds are optimised by using compiler "flags" while the source code is being compiled. For the G4 builds AltiVec instructions are turned on, but your guess is as good as mine as to where it helps things (it has everything to do with what the compiler does with the code).
What application are you doing this comparison on? On most of the builds, application load times should be shorter. Web page loading times should be quicker (but there have been some reports that the difference in Firefox 3.0.x is a lot smaller compared to the difference with version 2.0.0.x). :-k

I was checking things like startup times and Javascript performance. There are some sites that do things like benchmark javascript.

In my experience there's not much difference with javascript handling as that part doesn't seem to get any optimisations. It might be that you can't optimise it, not completely sure but that might be the case (building from the release code).

My optimised builds of Firefox 2.0.0.17 are up and available now, with Firefoxy widgets pre-installed.

I'm currently working on building SeaMonkey 1.1.12, and Firefox 3.0.2 later.

Hi RPMozley, you might as well sit on the 3.0.2 compile - they've gone to 3.0.3 thanks to a bug :-P

@tanweileong, yes I saw the new update last night. Unfortunately I had finished building two of Firefox 3.0.2 and now I have to start all over again with 3.0.3 :(

well, i gotta say i'm glad you didn't wait for the Camino and FF2 builds, or I wouldn't have anything to browse with on this 10.3.9 machine!

Thunderbird 2.0.0.17

Post by RPMozley »

My optimised builds of Thunderbird 2.0.0.17 are available now. Sorry for the delay, I didn't notice that there was an update until recently and also there was a problem with my internet connection so had to wait for a few days before downloading the new source code.
Anyway, enjoy.

Hopefully by midweek they will be available, assuming there aren't any interruptions to keep me away from my computer during that time.

Oh and Firefox 2.0.0.18 builds will be up shortly, once they're in place at the hosting sites. O:)
