firefox Linux '586 build and build script

Post by darkonc »

My roommate has a Pentium MMX with 96Meg of ram, and is currently running RH8.

I think that this kind of a box is a FINE candidate for running firefox, except for the fact that the official build built for the 686, and does not run on older pentiums.

After much hunting, I finally figured out how to build for distribution -- Thanks to Matts script. (It should be put
someplace <B>REALLY OBVIOUS</b>) I think that the process for creating builds (especially distributable builds) is
far from obviious. Given that a build on a P2 takes about 8 hours (much sped up by using distcc) The trial and error process for figuring it out is rather onerous I almost gave up on figuring it out.

I've placed my 586 build, my updates to Matt's script and my mozconfig.txt file on my website <a href="http://www.bcgreen.com/mozilla">http://www.bcgreen.com/mozilla</a> . Feel free to place this someplace more generally accessible.

Given that this is my first successfull attempt at creating a usable distribution, please take a look at my mozconfig.txt file for anything you consider problematic... Suggestions and improvements are much appreciated.
