Lightning won't install

Post by Bradleeger »

Hi Folks,

I've downloaded Lightning, the add-on, several times, and tried installing it several times, and keep getting this message:

"Thunderbird could not install the file at: ... Because: unexpected installation error review the error console log for more details. -203"

I looked at the error log and could not see anything helpful, searched the knowledge base and can't find anything remotely relevant.

I'm using Windows XP Home, and TB 2.0.0.23

Thanks for the help,
Brad

Moved from Thunderbird support to the Calendar forum because you'll have a better chance of getting an answer there.

This seems to be a known error. At least it is mentioned on the Firefox support page http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons. I suggest that you try the same steps for Thunderbird as listed for Firefox.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_ins ... _-_Firefox has similar text, but doesn't mention Thunderbird. Can you install other add-ons? I suggest you try that before deleting extensions.ini , extensions.cache and extensions.rdf in your profile.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird

One reason why I moved the thread here is I remember other posts that claimed that there were configuration specific problems with Lightning 0.9 where sometimes you had to install an older version.

Hi Folks,

Good news: I deleted the three extention.xxx files, described at

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Una ... _error_203

and that fixed the problem.

Thanks for your help!
