Due to increased interest, I've created a launcher and complete instructions for running Sunbird from a USB key or other portable drive. It should work from any removable media drive (USB thumbdrive, external hard drive, CDRW in packet mode, etc). I'll be creating a full package with similar compression as with Portable Firefox and Portable Thunderbird in the future.
Get it while it's hot:

On your web page I see:
"...well, once Sunbird has some extensions, that is..."
Calendar Help is a Sunbird extension:
http://calendarhelp.mozdev.org
and Journal will soon be another:
http://journal.mozdev.org
At present Sunbird can only install them globally (not in the profile), so
I assume that they will also work OK with Portable Sunbird.

I had searched around, but couldn't find any extensions for it.
The launcher fixes profile paths only, so it will not work with the current incarnation of Sunbird. Is profile installation expected soon?

John

Calendar portability isn't handled by the current launcher. I've made a note on the project page. The next launcher revision will address this.
