Lightning CSV Import Not Using Correct Date Format

Post by Clontarf[X] »

Hi All,

Just wondering if there is any fix for Lightning defaulting to US Date Format when importing a CSV file? Both the Outlook and Thunderbird machines are set to en-AU and Australia for their regional settings, however Lightning still reads the dates in the exported CSV as being US date format.

Any ideas?

Code: Select all

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.9) Gecko/20100915 Lightning/1.0b2 Thunderbird/3.1.4

No, the CSV format support in Lightning is very limited and fault-prone. I'd recommend to use the iCalendar format to transfer events. I think current Outlook releases ought to support iCalendar export. For older releases it can be added using free tools, e.g. FreeMiCal.

Yeah the Outlook machine is running 2003 so no native iCal support there. I will check out FreeMiCal though. Hopefully it can export from Exchange calendars.

Thanks for the information.

Did you sort out a work around for this date format issue? I've hit the same wall.

Unfortunately not.

My Outlook export only contained 20 or so items (none recurring) so I manually edited the date field.

If I remember correctly, I couldn't find an easy function within Excel to do it for me.

Thanks for the feedback X

I can import the CSV no problems, but with the month and date backwards (crazy convention anyway) events are all over the place when imported to lightning.

I have managed to reformat the date fields in the CSV file, but it fails when I try to import this modified CSV - ie nothing happens.

There are a couple of hundred entries, so its a bit of a pain...

I like Thunderbird and Lightning so far, but this importing from Outlook is killing me.

I am having trouble importing the Outlook.csv file (from Yahoo calendar).
. The dates are "mm/dd/yy" and are text. What format should they be?
Regards,

Phil
