Lightning Calendar Search Bug With CalDav Google Calendar

Post by viveksuraiya »

Add a Google Calendar to Lightning using the CalDav protocol.

Create a repeated event (say, Credit Card Payment on the 22nd of every month starting 22-Apr-21, with no end date)

Search for "Credit" in all future events. No results will be displayed.

Search for "Credit" in all events. Only the first instance on 22-Apr-21 will be displayed.

It frequently helps to mention what version of Thunderbird you are using. Please don't say latest as that is ambiguous.

I think the "no end date" is the issue.

Not knowing what is the last year for "Forever", there is probably too much data to display.

No user is going to be around that long anyway.

Try reducing the end date to a more reasonable year.

Think the "No End Date" and "All Future Events" is the issue as pointed out. If I choose to see events in the next 31 days and search, the event does show up. However, this behavior is unlike Google Calendar on Android. I think Google Calendar automatically assumes a reasonable time for future events.

Sorry, I can't help, since I don't use recurring events and wouldn't have them last forever if I did.

I also don't use Find Events and think it should be removed. The Today Pane shows me everything I need.

You are right, Google assumes a certain interval when you display results. It sometimes creates problems if you really need to find something that happened in 2015.

So limit your searches, and for even better management, create recurring events with a start and stop date. I typically go by school year.

Yeah, events in the distant future are a real problem in Google calendar. E. g. passport expiry 10 years from today doesn't show up in Google calendar search, but does so in Lightning.
