Food for further thought:

This issue only started occurring for me after I exported my Lightning 0.8 calendar onto the desktop in ICS format.

The calendar has been imported into Google Calendar, but this should have no bearing on the local calendar, as there is no backward link from Google to Lightning.

The Lightning calendar is not read only.
The profile data file is not read only.

I was having the same issue with Lightning 0.8 when connected to my Windows Live Calendar shared calendars (Using ICS format). I eventually had to un-install Lightning because the constant reminders were making me nuts.

Where can I grab a copy of Lightning 0.9 for Windows?
Nightly releases are for Linux systems, correct?
Reinstalling 0.8 did not fix this.

Unsure how to implement Bugfix 389251.
calendar/base/public/calIItemBase.idl does not exist on my Windows system.

Thanks bvdbos

Bugfix 389251 is probably a Sunbird fix, rather than a Lightning fix.
Package releases are probably for Sunbird, rather than Lightning.

Perhaps there is a method to port Sunbird fixes and releases to Lightning that I am unaware of, but I don't see that as likely.

Regardless, I've now uninstalled Lightning and now use Sunbird. Sunbird has imported the Lightning calendar and handles reminder events without problem.

So I have upgraded to the latest provider and version of Lighting. So now it says that it cannot write to the calendar. I have Lighting 0.9 and Gdata provider 0.5pre. So now the message is that the modification failed. I am using the Private XML URL. So it is still not possible to dismiss these reminders.

I'm having pretty much the same problem: Lightning's reminders cannot be snoozed. More specifically, if I click on 'Snooze' and click on the time units to display something other than my default (hours), the check mark and X move to the right with the X going so far that it's not even visible. But even if I accept the default time and click the check the dialog box does not close and the event is not snoozed.

However, unlike others in this thread, I am NOT trying to sync Lightning with a Google calendar.

The problem began less than a week ago. Until then I had been able to dismiss reminders without any problems at all.

TB 2.0.0.16 (20080708)
Lightning 0.9 RC2 (2008091719)
Nightly Updater 0.8.080824
Nightly Build dated 20-Sept-2008

After installing NU (this morning) and getting the 20-Sept-2008 build, I now get an error message when I try to snooze a reminder. It says, "An error occurred when writing to the calendar Home!" When I click on 'details' it says "MODIFICATION_FAILED"

Anyone have a way to resolve this? Anyone? Bueller?

I glad I found this thread....I thought it was just me.

I have TB 2.0.0.16 but I'm running .8 Lightning and Provider for Google .4
I tried upgrading to .9 and .5 respectively and it failed to work but that was about 2 weeks ago. This week, all was well until Tuesday...now I can't snooze or dismiss the reminders.

I am having the same problem as of the recent updates to Thunderbird, Lightning, and Provider for Google Calendar. I have been able to replicate this on 5 different machines.

TB version 2.0.0.17 (20080914)
Lightning 0.9 (2008091719)
Provider for Google Calendar 0.5

Every time I load Thunderbird, I also get a popup with a whole slew of events most in the past which have not been properly dismissed. Not sure why this is happening. Can anyone help?

Thunderbird updated today, and now I too am getting an empty and un-dismissable reminder box. Closing the box seems to snooze it for 1/2 hour, but then it returns.

version 2.0.0.17 (20080914)
Windows XP SP3

:-k

While writing this and checking the problem I've manually called "reload remote calendars", I have 6 and they're all on a peer share. The reminder box then spontaneously went away! I'll post this message anyway just in case it's a clue, perhaps others could see if the reload has any effect.

Further to the above ...

I found the problem to be repeatable each time Thunderbird starts, and related to just one specific calendar; turning alarms off on all the others had no effect, but turning them off on this one calendar made the problem go away. Looking in the calendar (.ics) file I found just one alarm set for an event that has expired 3 months ago, removing the reminder (using Thunderbird) made the problem go away. This was the only reminder I have set, I rarely use them.

To recap ...

For me it's a new problem that came in on version 2.0.0.17
It only occurs on startup, reloading the files makes it go away.
I had only one reminder, and that was expired.
I have 6 calendars, all on a network share, all .ics files.
Thunderbird startup takes around 15 seconds.
All .ics files are cached.

I to am having the same problem. I'm shocked that someone hasn't posted a fix yet.

Since upgrade to version .9 I can not modify a single instance of a repeating meeting without it breaking the reminders. I have to delete the single instance and put it back in.

I once saw the error talked about in the thread that said modification failed. That’s when I learned to just delete the instance and go from there.

I have a lot of repeat meetings to to monthly or weekly maintenance for customers.

Oh BTW: My calendar is ICS remote to my FTP server as well. Is this a theme I'm seeing here? .9, ICS, Repeat meetings? Hello anyone HOME?

Same probleme here (using a WebDAV share). All tasks and reminders are unusable at the moment.

The error log shows the following message:

Code: Select all
Error: An error occurred when writing to the calendar Private Tasks! Error code: MODIFICATION_FAILED. Description:
Source File: file:///%profile-dir%/extensions/%7Be2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103%7D/components/calItemModule.js -> file:///%profile-dir%/extensions/%7Be2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103%7D/js/calCalendarManager.js
Line: 952

FYI: the placeholder %profile-dir% was inserted for reading convenience

System information:
  • OS: Windows XP SP3
  • Thunderbird 2.0.0.17 (20080914)
  • Lightning 0.9
  • WebDAV Provider: Apache2 respectively Roxen

Looking forward to a solution ...

I am having the same problem of not being able to dismiss a (past) reminder for a single instance of a repeating meeting that was edited.
I am using Lightning 0.9 (build 2008091719) with Thunderbird version 2.0.0.17 (20080914) to contect to a Zimbra calendar [iCalendar (ICS)].

I get the 3 errors in the log when trying to dismiss this reminder (pasted at the bottom of this post).

Should I be reporting this somewhere else?

NB. When I upgraded to lightening 0.9 I lost the ability to dismiss any reminders as it somehow reverted my calendar to read-only - but this was easily changed back once I realised what had happened - thanks to earlier forum posters!

Thanks.
E.

Is this a problem with just Lightning? Here at work, most people use Zimbra for mail and calendar. The problem of not being able to dismiss an event is happening within Zimbra also. One of the admin assts who uses only Zimbra, has reminders of old events popping up. I'm using Lightning (with google provider) to access calendars on the network. Some events won't stay dismissed, some will - I haven't been able to figure out the pattern.

I also have some tasks that won't stay deleted.
