I set up Ubuntu 8.04 new and this process made it necessary to install Thunderbird again. So, once installed I used my backup to restore my emails (which worked well) and the plugins. However, after that my Thunderbird interface looked somehow weird: I deinstalled lightning (I even deleted the files for lightning in .mozilla-thunderbird folder in my home), nothing. The view is totally scewed. The calender moved to the left. Maybe someone knows that problem and how to solve it? Thanks in advance. Holch

Moving to the Calendar Forum.... Were you using Lightning from Synaptic or the Addons site ?? Uninstall Lightning, and reinstall the newest version Here.... https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/2313

Thank you for your response.
Sorry for the wrong forum.
I installed Lightning directly from the AddOns page. So I don't think it is because of an old version.

@sssitter: Thanks for the response. I will try that once I am at home and let you know if I've been sucessful.
The thinky with libstdc--5 sounds sensible to me. i think I remember that I had it installed in my previous installation of Ubuntu, for an other software. I am not sure if I have it installed now. If it is not installed by default, then probably not.

Ah..... nice find ssitter... I had to install that package to make my Printer work !! It seems that Firefox 3 does not need it, and Hardy does not have it installed as default, on a new install, rather than an update... It might be worth adding to the Lightning instructions. I assume the package from the repository would load it is a dependency.

Yep... the problem is, that Firefox 3 does not need that package whereas Firefox 2 did, so it is not installed as standard on Ubuntu 8.04, which uses Firefox 3....

I'm having the same issue as other posters here with Lightning in Ubuntu 8.04. I've uninstalled Lightning, installed libstdc++5 and reinstalled Lightning, as per the instructions here. Unfortunately, this hasn't fixed the problem for me. Any suggestions?
Cheers,
alan

Did you use both thunderbird and lightning from the same source (both from mozilla or both from ubuntu)? If not, it may cause troubles.

Thunderbird from the Ubuntu repositories and Lightning from Mozilla. Unfortunately, the version through Ubuntu is stuck at version 0.7. As with other posters, everything worked fine with Ubuntu 7.10, it broke when I upgraded to Hardy Heron.

Try Uninstalling Thunderbird, as well, then reinstalling it....
