But then I believe that on the to-do list for sunbird is having the alarms work when sunbird itself isn't running. So maybe it will be built in eventually, and my app will become obsolete.
I think it's more relevent for the calender then email client (because of alarms as you say). It's doesn't matter that it's Windows specific - remember Quick Launch (part of Mozilla the suite). Perhaps you could consider rewriting your app as part of Sunbird (if the devs agree that is)?
