The new Minimo 0.007 was posted today. I used it but found it to be painfully slow. Bringing up Google took forever. Other web sites took an extremely long time to bring up as well.

It looks like this version has tab browsing but since it was so slow I did not try it out.

I found it to be much faster and far more stable than past versions, thanks for the input though.

Still no proxy support I see. The thing is totally useless to me until they manage to get that in there.

This is the BEST so far! TABBED! Faster, less demanding on memory to run, larger print. But...no landscape? .005 & .006 both expanded to fit landscape.

.007 was 3 times faster than Pocket IE to load a memory-intense page (animated US radar @ intellicast.com). I timed both. 60 seconds for Minimo .007, 180 seconds for IE.

Image quality on .005, .006 & .007 has been nearly as good as a desktop, esp. compared to Pocket IE 4.2.

Bugs: I like the progress display in address bar, but it stops working when more than one tab is open. Also, tabs opened caused the address bar to go blank. Pages still load, but no address & no progress display are visible.

Need landscape, https, file download, proxy & bookmarks support, but I will be patient! Keep up the great work!

Unfortunately 0.007 seems to be the second build in a row, which I can't seem to get running on my Dell Axim X50v (German ROM). The device is fresh hardreset, absolutely nothing else on it, all today plug-ins and wireless drivers deactivated and as much free RAM as that device is ever going to have. Still, after launchin "minimo.exe", I get a complaint about too little free memory. 0.006 seemed to have had the same issue - 0.005 was the last one that worked fine for me.

Is there any information I can provide, that might help to sort out this problem?

Same here, although I've never tried 0.005. I'm using an Asus 730W, with no other programs running I have about 39MB of free program memory. But still minimo complains of no free memory. Just what are the memory requirements? Thanks.

007 looks a whole lot advanced and faster than previous build I looked at --5 I think ---
Couldnt find any options --how do I get to that?
Also --had problems when multiple tabs were open ,getting them to load
Is their any fit to screen option--Mine was all normal desktop size page
But...things are looking up--
All the best

To answer some of the questoins and to clarify to some since I learned I confused some people. I am not the developer, I have contact with Doug but I am just like you, a user.

On to the questions: There are no options that can be set right now
Fit to screen: No
Tab problems: Its the first build, there are many bugs w/ tabs (names of pages can be wrong, memory problems, etc) They are being worked out.
Screen rotation is broken right now. If you start minimo in landscape it does ok, it just doesn't switch on the fly right now.

As for memory questions: I believe 007 demands about 10-15 megs to start, the more tabs/pages you have open the more memory you use. I've crashed my copy of minimo after 4 tabs w/ memory intensive pages.

Thanks for the input, keep it comming!

I've only glanced at all, but it looks like "Fit to screen" is in the source code changes since .007 and will be in the next release. Funny, because it used to do this but for some reason it ended up hard-coded as 240x320 in .007.

Thanks for the info. Like I said in my previous post I have about 39MB of free *program* memory but still fail to start minimo. Are there any settings I could be looking at? Or do I just have to wait for minimo 0.008 :)

-thanks

I dont believe it to be a setting issue as Minimo is not adjustable. If your knowledgable on it, you could try doing a build w/ the source available. Check the link in my signature for help.

Farmer Ted: Its good to hear that, I haven't dug through the code and I haven't heard wind of this from doug but its very possible.

Unfortunately I don't do programming ;-)

However for fun I did a hard reset of my machine and tried minimo again. This time with about 56MB of program memory it worked! But it was something of an anti-climax:

- the speed was pretty slow
- the text rendering is horrible (it looks as if the width of each letter uses only about 3 pixels)
- tabs wouldn't close

Yes, I know it's still in the early stages of development - I just wanted people to know not to set their expectations too high when trying it out, and not to delete PIE just yet :)

-thanks

I quite agree. I had the same results on the Dellx30. Looking forward to much future releases. For now it won't run without closing down all my apps. I will check back when it gets further along.
