[Mobile] I'm disappointed in "Request desktop version"

Post by usergroups »

This feature "Request desktop version" like on Chrome.... is not the best way to quickly enable desktop mode. Why? because:
- It doesn't apply to new tabs and all open tabs
- It doesn't apply to the website i requested desktop version
- It disables after you closed the tab.

Bring back the proper option in the settings section or force it remember what i have choosed. i work better on desktop mode rather than use crappy mobile version that lack of many features.

We can't "bring back" anything. This forum is not run by or formally associated with Mozilla. We're an independent user-helping-user community.

Moving to Mobile forum where other users of the mobile version can see and comment on the issue.

I use android firefox. I use 2 add-ons with it that make android firefox do what you're wanting it to do, & on all tabs & sites too. However, a few sites don't work almost at all in desktop mode in android firefox (example = google maps). Also, these 2 sites
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/android/
&
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/
may decide that a firefox addon won't work with your firefox+OS, even if it will. Just disable these 2 add-ons when you go to sites like that, & re-enable them afterwards.

The 2 add-ons are here.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/androi ... de-add-on/
&
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/androi ... nt-string/

The Custom user agent addon works, but in android firefox, you can't paste any text into it's text box, so you'll have to type in a user-agent string. Go here,
http://www.useragentstring.com/pages/Firefox/
(it's for desktop firefoxes) & write down the user-agent string of the highest version that's listed on some paper (because that's too long to memorize). Don't forget the spaces either. Then, in android firefox, go to Menu > Tools > Add-ons > Custom user-agent string, & carefully type in the new user-agent string. You'll probably have to close & restart firefox for it to start using the new user-agent string.

Addons are not needed to achieve this on a site-by-site basis.
The addon will change your useragent for ALL sites you visit.

You can set custom per site useragent modes in your about:config settings.

Add general.useragent.site_specific_overrides and set it to TRUE.

Add a new STRING for each website you want displayed in desktop mode and name it general.useragent.override.websitehere.com
(Change websitehere.com to the website name you want displayed in desktop mode)
This will ensure each time you open the site it displays in desktop mode, not just the one time when you use the "Request desktop site" feature in the drop down menu.

For a desktop mode enter the following as your string:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows 10.0; WOW64; rv:23.0) Gecko/20130406 Firefox/42.0.1
