NoScript for Android FF?

Post by semigeek »

Is the NoScript add-on available for Android Firefox? Nothing comes up when I search for it on Mozilla, and googling produced a link that looks like a very old alpha-test. All I found for mobile is an add-on that toggles script on and off from the URL bar manually.

The NoScript extension at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/noscript/ by the author is only for desktop Firefox and SeaMonkey,

There is https://noscript.net/nsa/ ?

The support forum for this extension is at https://forums.informaction.com/viewforum.php?f=25

Something odd is going on here. When I search (mobile) add-ons for "noscript" it doesn't come up. When I google "noscript mobile" I find this link:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/mobile/addon/noscript/
This appears to be a mobile version of Noscript, with very recent dates, but when I click Download nothing happens.

Thanks for the link to the dev forum. Comments there suggest it's still in alpha test, which I don't mind. I have no idea why I can't download it though. There's also a thread "Is Noscript Mobile dead?" and pretty soon the thread dates are 2014 and earlier... not encouraging?

Mobile refers to the early mobile browser builds before first Release on Android as Firefox started as of 4.0 Release. The Android builds then changed as of Firefox 10.0 if I recall.

Thanks. I assume the answer then is simply that development of Noscript for Android Firefox has stalled, and it's not available yet. Which seems curious as it's such an essential app for me.

In case anyone comes across this thread in a search, the manual script toggle add-on I found is:

I have since found an Android extension that can block scripts (and many other things like ads) on a customizable basis. It can be made to work roughly the way NoScript does (deny by default, allow selectively and remember) but it's complicated and has a learning curve. It does seem to work well.
