I save web pages in this format but can't open them from Firefox on an iPad (IOS 10)
Is it even possible?
If so, how?
OR, other ways of saving pages in other formats?
[but not a method that saves the html page in lots and lots of files]

No, it was informational. I moved your post to the Mobile forum where it is more likely to be seen by those using Firefox on an Android or iOS device.

Dan, thanks for the clarification.
If there is a response, will I get the notification automatically?

You will if that setting is selected in the User Control Panel.

Re: can't open .maff files on iPad
as there is no real firefox for iOS (afik it's Firefox for iOS is a wrapper for webkit) there is no real way to directly open them (via one of the Firefox addons)
but maff files are ordinary zips with a html file and corresponding data (images css etc) so you can rename that file.maff to file.zip and open it/unpack it with any zip utility for Mac and open the html inside it with your browser

I'm not sure how safari handle's webext or if there's a working Chromium based browser for iOS, if there is you can try this addon as it supports maff and htz
