Heyo... I decided to continue the obviously abandoned OpenDownload extension, introducing locales (thanks to babelzilla.org) and Fx3 support. (In Version 3.0.0, Fx4 support was added. Versions beginning with 4.0.0 require Gecko 14 and later.)
It is my first try to do something like that. Please take care of that.

FUFAQ:
What does this extension do? It adds some stuff to the "Save download" dialog, namely a "Run" button for executable files and a "Open with default application" radio box for others.
What was wrong with Jeremy Gillick's version? No active development, thus no support for recent Firefox builds, and, of course, no localizations. That's why I initially decided to continue it. Of course, I applied some more tweaks during development. See the website for a complete changelog.
Which locales are included? As of version 4.0.0, this extension has the following locales: ar, cs, da, de, en-US, es-ES, fi, fr, it-IT, ja, ko-KR, mk-MK, nl, pl, pt-BR, pt-PT, ro, ru-RU, sr-RS, sv-SE, tr-TR, uk-UA, vi-VN, zh-CN, zh-TW
Which platforms are supported? The current version of this extension supports Firefox 3 and up as well as SeaMonkey 2 or higher. Note that I don't actively use SeaMonkey so I totally rely on you to give feedback if it explodes or something.
Why can't I use the "Always do that" checkbox? For security reasons. See this explanation for details.
Can I change the path where OpenDownload² stores the temporary downloads? As of version 3.3.0, you can. Add a new string value in about:config named extensions.openDownload2.downloadPath. Beware that OpenDownload² won't check for its validity before version 3.3.1. Also note that OpenDownload² will regularly purge the directory! Reset the value if something went wrong.
Will you add any features, like a config dialog (for what?!) or a "download manager" or whatever? Not in the near future. Probably it would be overkill for what this extension tries to do.
Any bug reports and feature suggestions are highly appreciated.
I tried this under CrunchBang Linux but it doesnt work. The video file downloads it but doesnt open.
If I right-click the file (Downloads window) and select Open, the Firefox asks me what program to use. The video file should have been opened in SMPlayer.
can you make OpenDownload available for seamonkey 2.0b1, please.
I'm using the "original" OpenDownload from Jeremy Gillick since years with seamonkey. OpenDownload is great! But it don't works together with the new seamonkey 2.0b1
I checked it: OpenDownload 2.1.0 can be installed when extensions.checkCompatibility is set to false but doesn't work right. v2.1.1 will have native support for SeaMonkey. Thank you for the hint.
Version 2.1.1 is available on the website (will be submitted to AMO in a few minutes)...
Added and tested SeaMonkey support, added nl-NL localization and made the "open with..." radio button hidden when trying to download an executable file (in fact you have the Run button then).
