This extension worked great for me for 80% of the bookmarks I used it for. However, the remaining few are showing strange behavior. If I assign an icon to one, as soon as I go to the properties of another, the first one is lost. There are about four that it won't work for because they keep getting lost in this manner. I've tried deleting them and creating them anew, but I get the same problem. Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix it for those last few bookmarks?

I hate to say that the only way I was able to get this to work was by reconstructing my entire bookmarks.html file. Whatever stuff was in there from all the ages past didnt' like the new way favicons work.
What I ended up doing was exporting from Firefox to an html file, the importing and exporting via Internet Explorer. That left me with a bookmarks.html file that didn't have any of the extra details Firefox adds in. Then I laboriously got all the favicons straightened out.
I wish there was a better way to assign a favicon via a web link, I found that you can simply put: http://www.website.com/favicon.ico into the field when you browse for a new icon, but you end up grabbing the icon file using windows and taking it from your IE temporary internet files.
And how come the default file type you search for isn't icon, every time I browse for a new icon I have to switch from "images" to all files types?

I looked at your profile, which links to here: http://update.mozilla.org/extensions/au ... .php?id=22 , but did not see this extension listed.

This extension should not be listed because most of update.mozilla.org visitors are release build users.

Is faviconpicker0_2_1 still working in aviary branch so far as anyone knows? For the life of me, I cannot get this extension to do anything successfully in Firefox Bookmarks menu except for erasing favicons. It can do this all day long but that's it! Nothing else! The idea of this extension is fantastic. Now if it could successfully add a favicon to the Bookmarks menu - that would be wonderful!
My current build: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040903 Firefox/1.0 PR (NOT FINAL) /aviary branch
WINXP SP1

The extension works ok on my Firefox 0.93, but a couple of things. I haven't really got into it too much yet.
I wish there was something that could periodically test all of my bookmarks and download and assign Favicons. Similar to the program called FavOrg....check it out at http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,108438,00.asp
It seems this extension only looks for image files not for .ico files.
I would like it to have the ability to search .dll files for icons to be used...like when you click on the Change Icon button in the properties view in Internet Explorer.

Could we add a "Lock" feature and/or "Read-only" attribute to appear in bookmark's properties to aviod a site replacing them with their default icons or *random icons [*relating to the FF bug where random icons sometimes replace an icon other than that of its original site]?
Current: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b2pre) Gecko/2007112000 Minefield/3.0b2pre
For kicks: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.6) Gecko/20060728 Firefox/1.5.0.6

IIRC, when there's a favicon in the bookmark, no site overwrites it. What will be locked and readonly?

You are actually wrong here. Try bookmarking Dictionary.com then, once it grabs the icon, try browsing and replacing it with another. Then, return to Dictionary.com and tell me what happens...
That is the reason for request of this feature.
