bug447571 (Expand bookmarks toolbar) in experimental.
This is an extension that workaround for 'Bug 447571 - bookmarks expansion broken when all items are put on a single toolbar, Bug 449736 - [Bookmarks Toolbar]Chevron is not displayed when window width was narrowed.' This extension works with Firefox 3.0 - 3.6a1pre. [NOTE] Both bugs had RESOLVED FIXED in Minefield3.6a2pre on 2009-08-14. You do not have to put all items in a single toolbar. Just adding the search box to the bookmarks toolbar is enough to cause the bug in Firefox 3.5.*.

Are we supposed to do anything other than install this and restart Firefox? Because it doesn't seem to have done anything and my bookmarks list is still chopped off.

Same here. Bookmarks menu was fine a few days ago. I installed the latest Fx3.5 (in a separate directory) and noticed the problem. Installing the extension did not help. Started up my still installed 3.0.13 and all of a sudden the problem was there also. Again, the extension did not correct anything in 3.0.13 either.

@mmdm,
@Shadoefax I can not reproduce the problem.

Just to make sure then, the problem I'm having is that the when I click Bookmarks, the menu that drops down is very skinny. I only get the first few letters of the bookmarks, so I can't really tell what they are. Actually, for a split second, the menu is wide as normal, then it quickly becomes skinny. Is that the problem that this extension is supposed to fix? Is there anything else I can try, because the menu isn't usable like this?
EDIT: I had already tried changing back to the default theme, and disabling my plugins. Nothing made any difference.

This extension is for Bookmarks Toolbar , is not for Bookmarks Menu. PS. Your problem looks like viewtopic.php?f=38&t=1457375&start=0

Oh, I'll check that out, then. Thanks!

Doesn't work for me. All bookmarks in the Bookmarks Toolbar are still gone when I start FireFox, and I have to redisplay them by clicking View > Toolbars > Customize > Done.

Just got a new PC, with Win7, and installed Firefox 3.5.5 and your fine bugfix addon, but it's not working consistently. I have five bookmarks, without any accompanying text, on the main menu bar:
At seemingly random times, when opening a new page, the fifth one (blue, TWC) vanishes, and the chevron reappears: If I exit FF, reopen it, and return to the same page, it's fine. So far, I haven't been able to detect any particular pattern to it, but I'll keep watching it to see if something jumps out at me. I never had a problem with this under WinXP, using the same version of FF and your bugfix. It's not a big deal, but I'd like to see it as bulletproof as it used to be (or to see a future version of FF finally fix the issue!).

Your screen shot is strange. so i think that this issue is came from TWC. I do not know what is TWC. 1. TFM TWC | location bar 2. TFM | >> location bar It will be the behavior of this extension if it is as follows 2'. TFM >> | location bar Last edited by Alice0775 on November 6th, 2009, 9:05 pm, edited 1 time in total.

The "TWC" link is just a link to The Weather Channel, specifically for the town I live in. I tried changing the sequence of the bookmarks, and whatever the fifth one was, that's the one that disappeared, always with the chevrons to the right of the separator.
But your response led me to what I think the solution is: if I remove the separator after the fifth bookmark, things start behaving normally again! Thanks again for a very handy addon.
