Re: [Ext] App Tabs 0.5 - inspired by Firefox 4.0 planned feature
I'd like to report my findings of the following:
1. Installed Tabberwocky
2. Installed App Tabs
3. Setting extensions.apptabs.lock to false
Still results in App Tabs being locked
However,
1. Installed Tabberwocky
2. Installed App Tabs
3. Setting extensions.apptabs.lock to false
4. Disable Tabberwocky
5. Re-enable Tabberwocky
App Tabs are no longer locked.
Hope this helps.

I had the same problem hansondr had on a mac with the tab being too skinny to click on and wanted to report that the fix provided of adding the following code to my userChrome.css file did fix the problem.
.tabbrowser-tab[apptab="true"] {
min-width: 28px !important; /* or whatever value you'd like */
}fir
My user file was in /Users/{username}/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/{profile}/chrome

studio17 wrote:@googlymoogly: for multiple-row tab bar mode, try this as a temporary workaround instead of your current code (changing # to the number that you want):([multirow=true] means that both multiple-row tab bar mode is on and there are multiple rows of tabs)Code: Select all
.tabbrowser-tabs[multirow=true] tab[apptab=true] { width: #px !important; }
Thanks. I'm afraid it didn't work though. Everything works fine using either that code or my min-width/width thing as long as you don't open many tabs so the multi-row thing kicks in, and then close tabs so the multi-row collapses to just one row, that's when it'll revert every tab to its tabMinWidth. Is there no way to, say, dump the resultant set of CSS properties to the javascript console or something, to debug this?
By the way, for those who don't want the pinned tabs to be locked everytime you restart Firefox, you can change EXTENSION_DIR\defaults\preferences\defaults.js and set
Code: Select all
pref("extensions.apptabs.lock", false);
This personally suits me way better since most pages I have pinned do not really work locked; I prefer protected.

Re: [Ext] App Tabs 0.5 - inspired by Firefox 4.0 planned feature
Hello, I just gave this extension 3 stars under the name "Rex" on the addons page.
Truth be told I love the functionality of this app, and don't think I could live without it. However, I currently consider this as a resource hog because it loads EVERY SINGLE "APP TAB" in the background every single time I start Firefox. This means these pages are sitting in my memory wasting my resources and slowing down my Firefox start-up before I have even opened/looked at any of these tabs.
Essentially these tabs are being given the privilege of a homepage; they are all loading on start up.
The reality is that I may never even look at all of my "App Tabs" in each particular session, making the ones I don't look at in a particular session a waste of loading time and memory resources.
Please provide at least the option to only load tabs when I click on them. It would be even even better if you added the functionality to to unload these tabs from memory. Essentially "closing" while leaving the "App Tab" on the tabbar.
I'd really like this extension if it didn't require me to have pages open in the background, particularly since they slow down the loading of my own homepage before I have even looked at the app tabs myself, and I may never look at all my app tabs in one session.
Say I'm late for work or class or something, and need to print something out before I leave, every second counts in these situations. I would usually use firefox to download the paper and print it out, but now I would have to abandon my plans of using firefox for these quick tasks. If I was to startup Firefox in this situation, it will make me even more late because I'll have to wait for all those damn "app tabs" to load before I can even get to the page I need to print from.

That doesn't really make much sense. What you want to do is to use the bookmarks toolbar (?)

I couldn't have made it any more clear, it should make perfect sense, and no, I absolutely don't want to waste my screen real estate with the big clunky bookmarks toolbar.
This the most obvious way I can make this request, look at part of the menu for PermaTabs Mod, which contains the absolutely essential option at the bottom:
Now, please consider adding a similar option to your App Tabs menu:
What doesn't make sense? Its an issue of resource conservation and startup time. You act like I live on a different planet or something. I want the funtionality of App Tabs, but I also want this simple option available.

I would like to contest this feature request, or at least ask for it to be made toogable.
The fact that typing things into the url bar of an apps tab opens in a new tab is what originally brought me to this extension. I'd hate to see it go.

Got a major error trying to install this add-on?
This is what I get.
Firefox could not install the file at
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... ?confirmed
because: Not a valid install package

Using Firefox 3.6 beta2

If you want a new tab, why not open a new tab?
Not trying to contest you, but just making a suggestion that seems obvious to me...

Re: [Ext] App Tabs 0.5 - inspired by Firefox 4.0 planned feature
That's kind of the point of lock. However, as a contrast, it feels a bit odd that clicking links inside a webapp to perform certain events in a locked tab opens a new tab. For instance, if you lock GMail, and then restart Firefox, and it asks you to login again, when you hit Login, it'll open GMail in a new tab. That was a bit jarring to me, and the reason for me going with protected instead. Sounds like Eice is more after the "protected" feature? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Mixxster: Fair enough. I've never before seen anything like it but I guess it's a valid feature request.

Re: [Ext] App Tabs 0.5 - inspired by Firefox 4.0 planned feature
I had time to work on App Tabs a bit this morning, so here is App Tabs 0.6 and its changelog:
* Experimental compatibility mode for themes
If your app tabs are appearing too narrow or simply disappearing, try setting extensions.apptabs.expand in about:config to true and restarting Firefox.
* Disabled automatic tab locking integration with Tabberwocky
This can be re-enabled easily by setting extensions.apptabs.lock in about:config to true and restarting Firefox
* Compatibility with Tabberwocky's multiple-row tab bar mode
Screenshot of App Tabs and Tabberwocky!
I will respond to more feedback when I have time.

I too like this current behavior, so certainly don't eliminate the option of keeping the current behavior. The behavior is so great, that I leave you with one final related request:
BEHAVIOR EXPANSION REQUEST: This behavior is so helpful in preventing my App tabs from leaving their URL that the behavior should be expanded to the homepage button. Currently hitting the homepage button, a habit of mine, forces my active app tab to load my homepage. That's not what I meant to do at all!
In other-words, please make the homepage button act like the URL bar currently acts for app tabs; force the homepage URL to load in a new tab, outside of my "locked" app tab. Then my tabs would truly be "locked" as they should be.

Not included in the changelog is "broken." At least I can't make it work for me anymore. App Tabs is installed. I get an App Tab menu item. I get no Apptabs...no matter what I click or Ctrl-Click.
Firefox 3.5.5 / Windows 7 Enterprise x64
Is the old version still available out there? I love the add-on. I'd just like it to work.

I can't even find 0.6. The AMO page still lists 0.5.1 for me.
