There isn't, so far. Would you need this for the automatic installation or for the interactive one? As for the first case, I could do without (you might want to give me a good reason for implementing this) - for the interactive one however, how to let the user know (otherwise), how much longer he has to wait until he can/must restart the browser?

I've uploaded <a href="http://www.haslo.ch/zeniko/software/massinstaller.xpi">Mass Installer 0.2.5+</a> which should work again on the Gecko 1.8 branch. The only other remarkable new feature is the new version number which will skip to 0.3 as soon as Firefox 1.5 is released (unless you suggest some more reasonable features to be added).

Hi,

First thanks for your contribution to Mozilla.

I've a problem trying to get the list of xpi extensions file.

I tried to used the following code

# %name% %homepageURL%
%updateLink%

with InfoLister 0.8.2+

but my output is:

*** Extensions (enabled: 33, disabled: 0)
# Adblock http://adblock.mozdev.org
%updateLink%
# All-In-One Sidebar http://firefox.exxile.net/aios/
%updateLink%
# Autohide http://www.krickelkrackel.de/autohide/
%updateLink%
# BetterSearch http://bettersearch.g-blog.net/
%updateLink%
# Bookmarks Synchronizer http://cgi29.plala.or.jp/mozzarel/
%updateLink%
# Download Manager Tweak http://dmextension.mozdev.org/
%updateLink%

...

What's the problem here?

I'm not sure, but the problem might be that the official InfoLister uses %xpiLink% instead of %updateLink%. If that doesn't work, please ask this question in the InfoLister thread.

And you please try the 0.9b version first.

I tried %xpiLink% and %updateLink%, but both don't work.

I'm using firefox 1.0.6 so I can not upgrade to version 0.9b.

I will repeat my question in InfoLister thread. Thanks.

<a href="http://www.haslo.ch/zeniko/software/massinstaller.xpi">Mass Installer v0.2.6+</a> adds a Hungarian locale and tries not only to quit the browser, but to directly restart it (works only on more recent Firefox/Thunderbird 1.5 builds), since this is what you'll have to do anyway.

just in case u didnt know, putting the xpi's into the profile extension directory automatically installs them all at once. it kind of makes this extension obsolete. this is good for 1.0.x though.

Well, thanks for spoiling it! ;-)

Actually, I've mentioned it myself half a year ago. The reason that this extension will continue is that it does the downloading as well (or how do you suppose you're extensions are going to get there?). So you still need only a simple text file, one small extension and about four clicks.

Obviously you could also make an Über-extension, containing all your favorites and just installing that one (which is also newly supported for Firefox 1.5). And even better: you can just zip up your whole profile and more or less drop and use it wherever you like. Now if some people prefer carrying text files around, just let them... I do.

Code: Select all

firefox.exe -url massinstaller:<URL>
where URL points either to a text file or to one or several XPIs (separated by a vertical bar: |). Combined with the -install-global-extension command line option, you could now script the set-up of the default profile.

BTW, is the possibility to install several extensions in one step by dragging them over the extensions manager actually documented anywhere?

How is it possible to make a global mass installation from command line with thunderbird? And can multiple globally installed extensions be lockes in one command?

@zeniko

Thanks for your reply, which I saw right now after I've been on vacation :-)

I need this for using MassInstaller with the automatic installation (not interactive) under BartPE -> http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder

We (the 911cd-forum-members from http://www.911cd.net/forums ) register our Firefox-extensions with your MassInstaller while booting up our BartPE. It's just a cosmetic thing, but maybe you can implement this feature?

Thanks for your great work

@Speci: For global mass installation, please have a look at the link in your quote. As for locking: that's no longer supported for Firefox/Thunderbird 1.5. You'd rather have to hide the extensions. For Thunderbird 1.0, locking should be possible in one operation. Again: see the link you quoted.

@cool400: As you can see, I've unfortunately not managed to hide the installation window. I'd probably have to heavily reorganize the code internals for actually achieving this (creating a window-less component) - and I'm currently lacking the time for that. Sorry.
