I found a link which may be helpful for interacting with the IE instance loaded by this plugin. Link found in this forum thread. The forum is about using the WebBrowser control which IE uses to display pages.
This page is an MSDN page listing events, methods, and properties associated with the WebBrowser control. Edit: Also this one too. These are for VBScript, so I wouldn't know how to use them from C++.
Edit: here is an MSDN article on the WebBrowser object, with VBS and C/C++ references.

So the latest install procedure is:
Install the IE Tab plugin: http://forum.moztw.org//files/ie_tab_plugin_105.xpi
Then install the IE Tab extension: http://forum.moztw.org/files/ieview__050825__c_995.xpi
Hong Jen Yee: Would it be possible to edit the first post in this thread each time the script is updated, so that newcomers can easily find how to install it, without having to read all 12 pages of the thread?
jasonhk: since Hong Jen Yee has not posted here for some time, do you think that for the time being you could edit your post (second in this thread) with the latest instructions, so that they can most easily be found?
pile0nades: To open a .doc file in MS Word (or in my case, Open Office, the free and far better alternative, which can do everything MS Office can do, including save to the same formats, plus PDF, *plug, plug*) just go to a URL like:
chrome://ieview/content/reloaded.html?url=C:/docs/mydoc.doc
[Edit: Spaces don't seem to work as %20, so to load a file from a path with spaces in, use the shortform. This is usually the first six normal letters, then "~1", but "dir" from a command prompt will tell you for sure. Also, the slashes work either way round, eg:
chrome://ieview/content/reloaded.html?url=C:\mydocu~1\test.doc
]
Same for any other file type for which IE has embedded reading plugginnyness.
[Edit: OH YEAH! Yahoo LaunchCast player in a Firefox tab! This rocks.]

I have OpenOffice too, and I was able to embed it into an IE tab using an .sxw file! Firefox cannot do that.
Edit: Here is a pic of OpenOffice in an IE tab in firefox using the Walnut theme:
Edit: it would be cool if the keyboard worked in the IE tab (other than the arrow keys, which do work) so programs embedded in it could be more usable, as I can't type in the embedded OpenOffice (it doesn't work in a normal IE window either) but there is a save button.
Edit: Is it possible to set *.sxw and *.doc files to open in an IE tab using the Always open in IE list? If not it should be an option in the next version.

I have been using the 'IE View' extension for some time. I thought I would take a look at Netscape 8.0 to see what was new. I was surprised & pleased to see that there is now a simple clickable option to view a page using the IE rendering machine, which DOES NOT launch IE itself. For days now I have been trying to find an extension/plugin for Firefox that would do the same.
A couple of examples: My bank recently re-designed their site & in doing so, made it totally non-viewable by Firefox. I had been using Firefox for most of the past year without any problem. The same with an investment service site - a table on a particular page [to be seen correctly] required IE.
I finally found a link to this page at 'The Extensions Mirror'. I followed your above directions & all is working great. I did find, of course, that I had to first give permission for 'forum.moztw.org' to install software.
In viewing 'about:plugins', I now see the following installed and enabled:
"PCMan's IEView Plug-in for Mozilla/Firefox"
Bravo & thanks.
javascript:emoticon('=D>')
Applause
PS: I see that the newly rendered page (using IE rendering) loads in a new background tab. For your next version, it would be great to have the option of either 'Loading Here' or 'Loading in A New [Foreground] Tab'. Maybe that option is already here and I don't know how to set it.

I right clicked these links & selected 'Open link here'. The 'Software Installation' window immediately pops up, just as when an extension is downloaded. [Install permission needs to given in Options].jasonhk wrote:hey , i have repack a new xpi file,
i think it is easier to install,
1) install http://forum.moztw.org/download.php?id=2087
it will install npieview.dll and IEView.dll in your plugin folder.
2) then install my modify xpi file,http://forum.moztw.org/download.php?id=2096
3) restart firefox
right click > "view this page in ie"
enjoy;-)
I installed the first link, immediately followed by the second, then closed & restarted. Worked great the first time & every time since.
'PCMan's IEView Plug-in for Mozilla/Firefox' is now shown as enabled in 'about:plugins'.

Nevermind, in the OpenOffice.org v2.0 PR release, there is now a "Mozilla plugin" which enables opening OOo files natively in Firefox, but its mousewheel scrolling doesn't work, it only works in an IE tab.
It can be found under Tools > Options > Internet > Mozilla Plug-in.

DaveNCheez wrote:Can someone tell me how to get this working in Firefox 1.5 beta.
I see that many of you have it working, but I can't find the instructions on how to make it work.
Everytime I install it says not compatable with FF 1.4.
There are two main ways.
One is to install the Nightly Tester Tools extension, which gives a checkbox on the install dialolgue for extensions for "Install using Nightly Tester Tools to override compatibility" or, in the case of extensions from older versions of Firefox that were disabled on upgrade, there is a "Make Compatible" option for them in the Extension manager.
The other way is to download the XPI file, open it in some compression program, like WinRAR (what I use for that sort of thing), copy the "insall.rdf" file out of it, find a <maxversion> tag, and change the version number to 1.4.1 (for Beta 2). Then, drag the install.rdf file back into the compression program, i.e. WinRAR, with the XPI file still loaded, and it should overwrite the one already there. Then, open the XPI file in in Firefox, and it will install it.
