NoScript vs uMatrix

Post by pocttopus »

Hello folks and correct me if I am wrong for opening this thread about these two addons in this sub-forum.

[NoScript] or [uMatrix]

Basically both are different and maybe we cannot make a compare between them. NoScript is more secure addon and uMatrix is more privacy oriented but both of them are very strong.

Which one is better for you?

This topic comes up surprisingly often in the NoScript forums, and it's always the same answer so here's just one example: https://forums.informaction.com/viewtop ... 001#p83579

If you feel the need to ask this question, try using both concurrently. Like you say, we cannot reasonably make a compare between them. Additionally we cannot say what's best for you nor can we guess what exactly you are looking for. This stuff is more individualised than you'd imagine.

My experience using µMatrix and NoScript at the same time has been great, haven't run into any issues from it.

Just make sure you're using latest versions of both addons and you'll be fine to do the same.

@barbaz Thaks for your response I and also for sharing information of combining these two addons.
uMatrix for me is too much restricted and NoScript is more user friendly. Maybe uMatrix is a little bit more powerful but also is not an addon for a regular user or if you want to open web pages more faster without clicking the addon to see the content.

You're welcome.

FWIW both addons' devs would agree with you there:

@barbaz thanks again and you convinced me once again to give a chance uMatrix but with combination with:

NoScript - https://noscript.net/
uBlock Origin with all easylist+fanboys list enabled - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... ck-origin/
Self-destructing cookie addon which is on of the most powerful tool for cookie protection - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... src=search
Bluehell Firewall - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... src=search
Better privacy for protecting of LSO cookies which are very often when you open a stream channel. - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... src=search

I must say that these addons are more than enough for secure browsing the internet even if you running a Windows machine without an antivirus. All you can add is just e MBAM (Malwarebytes) and that's it.

Now I am adding uMatrix to this list and lets see how it goes. I will need some time to fulfill the whitelist, but I believe that everything will be fine. I think it's just hard at the beginning but after a few days of using this addon will be more secure my behavior on the internet.

Bluhell is un-necessary redundancy with uBlock Origin as it's using the same filter sets over the same filtering scope.

You might find this thread an interesting read as well https://forums.informaction.com/viewtop ... =8&t=21685

Bluehell is a must have addon because there are several (dangerous) pages can be blocked only with this addon.
Some sites, most of them are blogs, are using pop-up windows and only Bluehell can block the whole content whis is un-necessary to open.

If there is an impression, always there is another window in the background and you are forced to click 2, 3, 4 times and sometimes even more, to see the link and the content you are looking for.

Also, thanks for the link of the thread... it is interesting discussion and experience with these security and privacy addon.s :)
