Pocket 3.0.6.1 error: first page corrupted

Post by JLJ »

~ Running Firefox 49.0.2 x64 under Windows 7 Home Premium ~

Recently started having a problem with Pocket 3.0.6.1 where the first page of items is corrupted: it will not display correctly and items on it cannot be accessed even though they're there: the saved count is correct and manually loaded pages previously saved show the red flag icon in the address bar, but they're hidden visually and do not show as a result of a search / filter within Pocket. The second + pages all display and function correctly.

Any ideas? I'm stumped. I have not tried disabling (uninstalling?) Pocket and re-enabling because I don't want to risk losing my insanely long list (yes, I back up the sqlite file regularly, but still).

Update: it appears this may be a symptom of some not-completely-clear general database corruption in the Pocket extension. Loading the sqlite file in an external viewer I was able to note some incorrectly-saved items (not URLs, very long and possibly truncated ones, et al) that I thought might be the problem, but removing them didn't help. What did (at least for now) was deleting some of my... wait for it... 1822 items. I'm down to 1715 and all the pages are visible and reachable -- if not perfectly then at least usably. Not sure if it's just too large/long a list or something specific that Pocket is choking on, but two steps forward and all that.

I'm having the same problem. It doesn't seem to be related to the number of items, neither the first page of the Pocket list.
This is what I found: there are certain URLs that break the page they are located on. Usually it is the first page because you notice the problem as soon as you add the responsible link.
In my case the responsible link was a page from Amazon, but I found that even the Amazon homepage generates the problem. I didn't find another website that creates the problem.

This is how I can replicate the problem:
1. Start with a functioning/not corrupted first page in Pocket
2. go to amazon.com and add the page to Pocket using the Pocket icon in the address bar
3. First page in Pocket gets corrupted
4. remove amazon.com from the pocket list using the same icon mentioned before
5. First page in Pocket works again
6. trying to add again amazon.com to Pocket gives a pop-up error saying: "Sorry, you can only save websites (http or https) to your reading list."

Can you replicate the points above? Can you you identify the responsible URL for you case?

I'm on Firefox 50.0 on Win7.

Thanks

Just to rule out any conflict with other extensions I tried with a fresh install (a portable version, actually) of FF 50.0, and the problem persists.

I also tried with a fresh FF 48.0.2 and it works slightly better: the first page doesn't break, but if you add, remove and add again amazon.com to Pocket, the Pocket icon in the address bar doesn't get red the second time.

I also found that in RILdelegate.js, row 1146, the word "amazon" appears.
