Gmail manager cannot detect new emails, pls. help!

Post by hhtmp88 »

Dear all,

Recently, Gmail manager (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1320/) stops to show new emails for all my gmail accounts
-> the number of new emails for all of my gmail accounts is always zero!

Does anyone know if tmlong will solve this issue in his/her new release?

If you don't mind, pls. go here to response this issue:

Thanks for any kinds of help!

PMDv1, I add my thanks as well. Installed the xpi and the numbers are back. :-)

PMDv1 wrote:I've created a quick little patch for the new version of Gmail which has been mentioned in a few other discussions. Basically the patch refers Gmail Manager to the old version of Gmail, so the patch won't last forever... however, it'll do until a new Gmail Manager version is released.

http://aphonyaffair.com/gmail_manager-0 ... +ns+zm.xpi

Or, if you want to apply the patch yourself;
find your profile folder
browse to the extensions directory
open the folder named {582195F5-92E7-40a0-A127-DB71295901D7}
open the components folder
Open "gmServiceGmail.js" in your favorite text editor (notepad)
Use the find feature to the following text: "?search=inbox&view=tl&start=0&init=1" (without the quotes)
Append "&ui=1" to that text (again, without the quotes)
Save the file, and then restart Firefox! It should now show your unread messages!

Hopefully, that should tide everyone over until tmlong is able to update the extension so suit the new changes. Also, thanks for the great extension, tmlong - it's absolute essential!

I just wanted to bring this great mod of the extension back to the 'top' so others can find the excellent 'hack' performed by PMDv1. Thanks to his abilities - he has saved the day!! Now we 'addicts' of this add-on can still use it until, hopefully, the author tmlong returns and writes a new version. :)

Thank you PMDv1!! You are our hero for the month! :D

Hello,

I have a suggestion.
Add an option : When a tab "Gmail" is already open, left click open this tab.
Actually, left click open a new "Gmail" tab each time.

Thanks. :)

I just had an extemely slow opening of the page with the tag added (mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#inbox) by the mod of the extension by PMDv1 . Seems as if Gmail is going to force all users to the new version - like it or not - no choice! :( If so we are up the proverbial 'creek without a paddle' unless our Gmail Manager author continues to have interest in his 'creation'. As the extension hasn't been tinkered with and shown an upgrade from the many requests in such a long time - has he lost interest?? Hate to say, but it sure appears so.

Someone else please pick up the slack!! This extension is *so* much better than the other gmail checkers out there - at least in my opinion!! As this *is* open source - someone jump is as PMDv1 did! Please!!

Rgds,

Yes this has to deal with the new gmail being released. All my gmails are showing 0 which I know not to be the case. I sure hope the author or someone else can repair the way gmail manager checks the gmail accounts.

You got that right. While the Gmail folks "allow" us to go back to the "old" version, it is only for the current session. When I returned to an account that had been updated--one in which I had opted to go back to the "old" version--it was back to the "new" version upon my re-log-in!

Also, I have noticed a BIG annoyance with the "new" version. Links in messages do NOT show as visited when I click on them. In the one account I have, I receive emails that often have the same links in them. In the old version, links I already had visited would show as visited in those messages. That is no longer true in the "new" version. I have told the gmail folks about that, but, of course, for all I know it is falling on deaf ears, especially since they do not care that they are shoving the "new" version down our throats whether we like it or not. As much as I detest Yahell, at least they are not forcing us to use their Mail Beta. Interesting.[/rant]

I almost forgot. I am hoping that the author has figured out why this add-on is not currently working in the Trunk version of Firefox, aka Minefield. It hangs when trying to add an account to it. I can only click on the "x" in the upper right corner to close that dialog. If he isn't working on keeping it compatible with Trunk, that is OK. Things change so quickly there that it is understandable that an author would not want to put up with such an aggravation.

One my accounts has finally switched to the new version and it appears there is an easy quick fix in which I can simply change the code to reference the old Gmail version. Unfortunately I have a feeling that this will only be temporary until Google decides to completely phase out the old version reference. I'll go ahead and make the quick change to the current code and post that for download here later today (currently at work). I'll try to have the new version out by the end of this week that has many improvements including working with the new password manager for Minefield. I'm sorry for not getting a fix out sooner but I just recently returned from being on vacation.

I'll be sure to update you with any progress made but expect an updated version here for download a little later today.

I've been using the Gmail manager for months now and love it. I manage 3 accounts and about a week ago it stopped working for all but one of them. It would log in but says I have 0 messages. Yesterday the only account that was working stopped as well. This time it's stuck with 3 new emails that I've since read and is not picking up any new ones.

Any ideas?

Just now saw that this has already been addressed!

Thanks!

TL,

Thanks for all you do. Like I said in a prior post, I understand if it takes you a while to address. May I also suggest starting a new thread. Eighty plus pages is no longer manageable.

Also, if you need a Minefield user to test your updates, please let me know. I'm happy to help.

Help TL

I just noticed today that my primary gmail account was migrated to the new version and no longer updates in Gmail Manager. I'm very happy to see a fix coming in the near future!

If you're like me and get an amazing amount of benefit from this extension, show your support and appreciation by sending the author a paypal donation.

So right-click that mail icon and "Visit Homepage" and click on that "Paypal donation" icon and give the guy a little love. I just did.

Thanks, TL!

Ok, I patched version 0.5.3 so that it references the old Gmail version to properly report mail. I've included the link below for the latest version and as always please let me know if you have any problems with this:

http://www.longfocus.com/firefox/gmanag ... ger054.xpi

I'll continue working on the true next version of the extension and integrate this patch with it. I hope to have the next version available by this weekend for at least some beta testing on the forums. I'll post back here with any updates on the next version and a true fix for the new version of Gmail. Thanks.
