I found an annoyance with Link Wrapper. With it enabled, downloading a file/program from download.com would produce a second File Save dialog box. If using Fx to download, the second box would open when the Download Complete notification popped up. If you cancelled the download, the second dialog box would pop up. If using a 3rd party download manager (Free Download Manager (FDM) w/ FlashGot), the second dialog box would pop under the FDM dialog box.

Also, it seemed that with Link Wrapper enabled, the File Save dialog box was slow to expand to include the FlashGot check box line while keeping the Save File and Cancel buttons inside the box.

I've noticed, for some reason, that MR Tech Link Wrapper is sometimes causing Bon Echo, at startup, to totally crash. Disabling it brings me nothing but normality.

I wonder if this isn't what I was experiencing. See this thread. I have since disabled Link Wrapper (running but with the LW option set to "disable" until I come to page where I see that I need it) and have not experienced my aforementioned crashes. I would speculate now that LW and one or more of the modules on my Google Personalized Home Page did not always behave well together.

Re: AOL Web Mail problems

Post by mrtech »

Thanks, I'll add this to the permanent list of domains.

fdisk2k wrote:Hello:

I just detected a problem with this Extension (Link Wrapper).

After logged to AOL webmail the only pane wich I could see and read was "Calendar, "Settings", and "Help"...The "Today" and "Mail" (the most important to me, was not possible).

After testing 1 by 1 each plugin or extension (very annoying by the way), I found the culprit...

Well, I made some "Adjustments" and seems to be working!!!

In the Options Tab | Miscellaneus| Sites to Ignore , add this =====> |webmail.aol.com
then click ok. restart your firefox and that's it.

I don't know if this tweak is necesary for the next release (many people don't know how to mess with the settings) I spent almost 30 minutes in the "live support" in the AOL site... (no comments)

Any feedback is very welcome!

Thanks

A simpler way would be to just leave Link Wrapper off/disabled. I do this because most every page (that I access) does not need Link Wrapper. When I do come to a page with a long link, I click it on. When I leave, I click it off.

the beauty of options :)

I have a minor update coming up, but in the future I'll consider better white/black list support.

2.1 is now available on my site: http://www.mrtech.com/msgboard/link_wrapper.xpi

2.1 Release Notes:
<li> Added: cs-CZ, fi-FI, nl-NL, pt-PT, sk-SK & zh-TW locale translations
<li> Added: "blog.myspace.com" & "webmail.aol.com" have been added to the exclude list of domains (please reset preference to default for future updates)
<li> Updated: "mail.google.com" is now "google.com" as Google appears to handle long lines/links well on their own
<li> Updated: Character limit checking is now disabled by default, if you experience performance problems on older computers, re-enable this
<li> Updated: Bumped Netscape version support to 8.1.2, bumped SeaMonkey version support to 1.5a

I've found that Link Wrapper 2.1 is incompatible with Minefield. Specifically, its options menu it totally blank. And when I try to manually set it up the correct way, as the included images show, the settings won't register at all.

(1)
Potential Problem
Priority: Major

When I toggle the "Link Wrapper" on/off, all tabs and widows will be reloaded.
That is a big problem for users who open may tabs and windows. Everything is reloaded all of a sudden (it causes long freezing or crash Firefox sometimes).
If you have some tabs (eg a place where you are still typing texts, or where you have sent an email etc), that may cause some minor problems too.

Would you add the option of either the following:
  • option to select not to reload after toggle (user has to manually reload them to see the effect. You may pop up a dialog to remind users about that)
  • toggle on/off per tab (not just globally)

It would be very useful for us who don't really want link wrapper in most cases, and will toggle it on only when we encounter page with long links.

(2)
Default length to Wrap Text
What is it actually?
What length? Character length?

I don't understand how it works. For example:
Default length to Wrap Text: 15

I tried to type a word which is longer than 15 characters "abcdeabcdeabcdeabcde".
It doesn't wrap at all.

(3)
Curiosity speaking, why is blog.myspace.com added to site ignored list by default?
What's wrong when we use Link Wrapper in blog.myspace.com ?

I would not worry too much about this. Firefox 3 will be able to handle link wrapping internally not to mention that the frequency of encountering links that need wrapping is so low that I leave it off until I do encounter a link that needs wrapped.

But that will cause another problem.
You encounter only a page that needs wrapping. But now every time you toggle on/off, it will attempt to reload ALL tabs and windows at once. That would be devastating for users who have opened many tabs/windows.

How can you toggle on/off without reloading all tabs and windows?

Link wrapper conflicts with TinyMCE's variable substitution

Post by RichardDavies »

Killua wrote:Are there some WYSIWYG Editors fighting against Link Wrapper?

A lot of Editors go wrong when it is turned on, e.g. TinyMCE.
But they are normal when turning off Link Wrapper..

I'm not exactly sure what Killua was referring to, but I finally just discovered why TinyMCE's variables (i.e. "{$lang_theme_code_title}") weren't being replaced with their values (i.e. "HTML Source Code Editor") in my copy of Firefox.

TinyMCE's HTML contains these template variables. When the pages load, a JavaScript function does a regular expression search and replace to replace them with the proper values, depending on which language file your using. This allows TinyMCE to work with a variety of different languages.

Well, when Link Wrapper is turned on, it inserts a <wbr> tag in the middle of the variable names, causing the regular expression to fail. I'm not sure what the best solution is to this problem. It looks like currently the only option is to individually disable the link wrapper on any site that uses TinyMCE. It would be nice if there was some way to configure the extension to automatically ignore these variable strings (maybe a way to specify a regular expression of strings to ignore).

I'm also going to contact the TinyMCE developer and he if it's possible to update their regular expression to handle the embedded wbr tags.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong. To me this extension doesn't work neither on Bugzilla nor on SourceForge (see images below). :(

buzilla wraps all response with a

Code: Select all

<pre>
, LW doesn't touch content in there, should work if you remove pre from the exclude tag list. I just tried it on Fx 3.0 and it's not really working but it might be a new behavior with pre or some style rule also, investigating.

I found this extension to wrap correctly in SourceForge: Toggle World Wrap.

Hope this helps.
