No hectic but it would just be nice if Todd came with some info about the current status ("almost done", "no more interested", "tons of new features", "passed to another developer", "abandoned", ...)

howdy y'all,

you might want to look at this ...
- Addon Update Checker 1.0
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... e-checker/

the first mention i saw of it was here ...
viewtopic.php?p=11006111#p11006111

perhaps he will take over the concept since tmlong seems to have lost interest in this addon.

take care,
lee

Unfortunately the extension is not integrated wit firefox update system, but it works well.
I'm using it and now it has popups too.
The only thing I miss is a context menu on the icon, with voices as "install and rebook", etc...

Chris, the developer of the new version seems a nice guy. Seeing as you remembered those features, ask him (on his thread here) if it would be possible to implement them. I'm sure if he can, he will. I'll second you! Image

howdy Borgata,

as keithy397 pointed out, the author is pretty active in that thread and fairly responsive to requests. ask him ...

It seems I will not have my context menu until someone will find a simple way to retrieve the address of the xpi to update the installed extensions! 8-[

This extension seems to be incompatible with FF8 and TB8.
Can it be made to work by editing the max version in the rdf file?

howdy Alexo,

this extension is abandonware. you can get another extension that does the job at the link shown a few posts above yours.

Hi Lee,

Lee_Dailey wrote:this extension is abandonware.

Yes, I figured that out. That said, I don't have a problem using "abandoned" software products as long as they keep doing what I need.

From what I understood (and please correct me if I am wrong) the Addon Update Checker works slightly differently from Update Notifier (it does not integrate with the firefox update system). I will switch if I have to but, if it's a trivial effort, I'd rather try to make this one work.

Thank you,
Alex.

Good luck with that Alex! Lots have tried to no avail.

As for the other extension Lee pointed out, it doesn't work like the original and you will notice the difference but, it does work and it gets better.

howdy Alexo,

as keithy397 pointed out, this extension is way too out of date to make work. things have changed at too many levels in the apps to make it function.

the AUC extension does the job - in a slightly different way that is not really very meaningful to most of us. [*grin*] plus, the author is quite active and has been for some time.

take care,
lee
