SuperT does not work correctly on 3.0a1. Tabs won't close.

Post by KeysRalph »

I have previously posted at the Addons Extensions download site on the Page for SuperT. However, I felt this information will also be of interest or use here.

I like SuperT and I normally have it set for three layers of tabs, so the tabs don't get squashed too close to not read the text on the tabs.

Under normal circumstances, the indentation on the right side of each tab highlights, and clicking on it collapses that tab.

Using Firefox 3.0, all tabs work perfectly UNTIL you open enough tabs to start a new layer of tabs, i.e. you now have started the 2nd level of tabs open. At this point, you cannot close the tab that is displaying, except by right-clicking it and selecting close. The close indentation on the currently viewed tab does not highlight when hovered over.

On the Tabs that are NOT being viewed, i.e. darker ones, you DO have the highlighting Close buttons as the mouse hovers over them. However, when you click on the highlighted close button, on the unviewed tabs in the first row of tabs, instead of closing that tab, it just switches to that tab. As it is now the viewed tab, it cannot be closed and the close button does not highlight, either.

On the second row of tabs, once again, if one of it's tabs is being viewed, it will not close using the the mouse click and the close does not highlight. However, those tabs that are on the second layer Will close Only if that tab is not the one being viewed, by pressing the highlighted un-opened tabs.

As a general rule of this SuperT bug, everything works normally until you reach two rows worth of tabs, then, the only tabs you can close, without using right-click and close tab, is if that tab is both:-
a) Not the current viewed tab, and
b) Not a on the first row of tabs.

So you can only close a Tab on the first row if you Don't have a second row.

And You can only close a tab on the second row, only if that tab is Not currently the "Viewed" tab.

Once you close enough tabs to the point all your tabs fit on one layer, everything works normal, again, until you create another tab that takes you back into 2 layers.

Moving to the Extensions forum.

SuperT has its won dedicated discussion thread, here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=389479
You should really have reported this there.

I find, on 3.0a1, I can still use the extension if I set double click tab to close it. That way, when I have more than one row of tabs, I can double click the tabs that won't close normally (The First Row and the tab that is displaying).

This should do until we get a fix.

The release forum is the appropriate forum for support questions. The development forum is for developers.

^It is - this thread was originally in FF General. Since this forum does not have the ability to merge threads, just moving it here was all I could do.

Actually, it was in Firefox Builds Forum as we are downloading Nightly 3.0a1 and I felt this would be of interest to those testing Firefox 3.0a1 that this great Extension, listed as Firefox 3.0 compatible is not working as it should on 3.0a1 nightlys, and that the odd feature of tabs not closing under a reproducible circumstances is not likely to be a bug in Firefox, but not impossible.

Not to keep this thread alive, but it happens in Flock too.

Try doing what I do in Firefox 3.0a1 > Set Double Click to close tabs.

In Firefox it is Tools > SuperT > SuperT Options > Tab clicking Options > On a Tab > Close Tab.

Maybe Flock is based on 3.0.

The advantage of SuperT Double Click in Firefox 3.0a1 include the ability to use slightly older themes, if you have Nightly Tester Tools.

With Nightly Tester Tools you can make all your Extensions and or Themes register as compatible, disable them then enable them one by one to see if they work properly.

The more recent themes work in 3.0a1 in compatibility mode, although most of those have no buttons on the tabs themselves, as those themes were written for Firefox immediately before the close buttons were placed on the individual tabs, but after The General shape of the current was created.

So those themes, including Noia Extreme 2.0 extreme 3.01, work on Firefox 3.0a1 with Nightly Tester Tools forcing compatible mode, but do not have the close buttons on the tabs or on the old location.

Using superT we can use Double Click to close tabs and still use those themes.

This is the developer of superT.
I'm not sure why it's doing that, but I have some ideas. I'll look into it.
I don't use the trunk builds because of all the changes that landing on there like crazy right now, and i need some stability. Thus, branch is where most of my work occurs.
