Not really working as I expected

Post by mosheco »

I used to do the same using the "switch direction" but the receiver if the email still gets bad text when Hebrew and English are mixed.
For example if I write (from right to left) a Hebrew word, then an English word, then a Hebrew word.
The receiver sees them in the wrong order.
In order to read it correctly, the reader has to start a reply and then use your button, but that could have been done without it.
Am I missing something?

A print screen could be helpful to understand exactly what you mean.

Ok.
It happens when your entire message is switched to RTL. If you change only the current paragraph to RTL, it works like it should. The problem is with Gmail I think, but I can try and fix it by making the button to switch only the paragraph, by default.
For now, to switch only the paragraph, you should first click LTR, and then RTL.

Thanks, understood.
I put the cursor first on the text and then press the RTL button.
I think if you can make it the default it will be better. After all, I used it in the most straightforward naive manner, at first.

You are looking for the one called BiDi Mail UI.

Stopped Working

Post by davidrab »

Hi,

Thanks for the nice extention. FYI, Starting today (24/12) it stopped working - no icons are shown. It may be related to the new update to FireFox (1.5.0.9).

Reagrds,

Don't know how is it on FF 1.5, but works fine for me on FF 2.0
I can't see a reason for it not to work on FF 1.5
Any how, why not upgrade to FF 2.0?

Mine also stopped working

Post by danielbu »

I keep my FF2.0 installation up to date, and my extension also stopped working. I thought this was because of the Gmail Manager extension, but seeing the above post made me think that it might be a general failure - maybe there's something dated in the script? Sounds unlikely. But the buttons disappeared, even though FF says that the extension is working fine.

Otherwise a good solution to a nagging problem.

A small question

Post by mdurin »

Thanks a lot! It's a very useful extension especially for hebrew users. My question is if there is possibility to create the same add-on for the Thunderbird? Because it's a same problem there...

Best wishes...

Nice extension :)

Is there a chance you'll make an extension that adds the ability to switch text-direction in Google's calendar (events description)?

Thanks :)

I'm not sure if it is easly possible to do like Gmail RTL was. Gmail English already supports RTL, and just doesn't show us the buttons.
But it sounds like a nice idea to try, I'll check it out if and when I work on Gmail RTL again. Not anytime soon I'm afraid.

Why do you think they don't show us the buttons?
