Deleting a Firefox Extension

When a Firefox extension is uninstalled, what happens to that extension?
Does it stay somewhere in an extension or plugin folder, or is it deleted automatically from your PC?

Deleted from the computer.
Reviving abandoned Firefox & Thunderbird themes since 2006.
