Here is a link to a modified version for FF3 http://guixine.blogspot.com Unfortunately the Options like Clean Up, Clear List, Open Folder dont work, But it does open the download window in a new tab which I like! Hopefully someone will make a fully functioning version for FF3...

That doesn't really answer the question regarding whether there's an option to open the Download Manager in a new tab by default, much less all the other options you have with the Download Manager Tweak.

That is what I would consider a quick and dirty mod to get it to partially work in Firefox 3.0. Three edited files that I could find in comparison to the 2.0 version = browser.js, downloadsidebar.xul, & downloadtab.xul.
You can hide all those non-working Options (that button in the tab does work), but it breaks other 3.0 download manager window extensions.
Downloads in Tab 0.0.6 - works if you override compatibility -

- and it doesn't keep the Download Panel 2008.06.17 "Clear List" button from working like the q&d DMT version does.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Mine has wandered off and I'm out looking for it.

Thanks for the alternatives - the-edmeister. I tried them and basically they are the same and their features are broken also. Hopefully someone with the scripting knowledge will fix these. The features available in "Download Panel" and or Downloads in Tab" or "Download Manager Tweak" should be standard in my opinion.

Regarding MM3 Version:
I set to open DL manager in SideBar, Clearlist do not work but if you close download manager and reopen it again ClearList has done its job.
I hope that it will help someone to solve this.

I totally agree ! It's a shame such a small but useful function can't work it's way into the standard Firefox installation.
I also tried to adjust the older version on Download Manager Tweak, but I keep getting the same error mentioned before :
XML Parsing Error: undefined entity
Location: chrome://downloadmgr/content/downloadsidebar.xul
Line Number 53, Column 5: <key id="key_info" key="&cmd.info.commandKey;" oncommand="onDownloadShowInfo();" modifiers="accel"/>

This is the best Download Manager Add-on I have ever found (in its simplicity).. I won't upgrade FF3 until its available.. ;_;
It would be a welcome site to see an update to this add-on extension.
Has any one tried contacting the developer directly?

The developer most likely doesn't use Firefox anymore and has left the forum. Not upgrading to FF3 because of this is not a good idea. I'm using "Custom Download Manager" and it's almost as good IMO.

Hi Deacon
I Think LonelyPixel means this add on:
Custom Download Manager

Hmm...it seems like the only thing that add-on does is allow you to set the built in download manager to open in a tab or side bar. That's...cool, I guess.

Yes. But I feel like it's not as smart at opening the tab as Download Manager Tweak. It's more often in the way. Also, it doesn't "customise" the actual download view. In a tab, there's a lot more horizontal space to fill with useful information. Well, at least I don't have yet another little window floating around. So yes, cool.
