I concur that it does look good.

One feature I'd like to see in *either* the official or yours is the identification of where (directory/folder) a file is_being/was downloaded to.

ummm I kinda like the current way FireFox's download manager looks like because it looks basic and gets straight with the business (downloading...) though it should have the url showing of the download in the window as well.

I did a little hacking and ended up with a working download manager that was more pleasing to me.
A screenshot comparing the old download manager to my new one can be seen here: downloadmgr

You can download the new jar files here: downloadmgr.zip.

Let me know what you think. Any comments or suggestions?

copy the files in the zip to the chrome folder of the firefox program folder. be sure to first make backups of the files.

It's nice enough - I can understand the "too crowded" complaints, tho, so I'll have to look and see what could be done better (in my opinion, at least) so that everyone can like it. I do think it's a slight step up.

The only glaring problem I see is that the pause/resume/retry icons aren't intuitive at all (particularly the pause icon, in my opinion). The screen reader thing can't be a real problem, tho, because they already have to work with the toolbar buttons in the main window (unless the user has to turn on a text option for the icons to make the reader work). Or then again I might be wrong there; does anyone know someone who could test this out?

Heya! I had this installed and it worked nicely - but of course wasn't compatible to my favourite theme, so I restored the old chrome-folder (just the files backed up before copying the contents of "downloadmgr.zip"). Now FF deletes my Cache after every time I close the browser (fairly annoying) - is it possible at all, that this new dl-manager is the cause? I can't think of any other, really, since the phenomenon occured right and only after restoring said files.

But in any case: is there a way to change this, so my Cache is kept?

Thx for help! :)

not sure if this has been worked out yet.... but when downloading a file with a long name the progress meter gets severely squished.

Image

edit: yes i know i can resize it... but that would defeat the purpose of using this one since it is nice and compact

edit 2: i bet my theme is causing some problems too :)

hi

from lookin at the screen shots this seams to be an improvment over the old download maneger so im goin to give it a test drive and see how it works and i will then post my comments

[Edit]

ok just tryed it out good job defenatley better than the default

my sergestions

1 for cancle pause and resume stick with text coz the icons arnt very clear till ya hover ya curser over them

2 add the url that you are downloading from this can be usefull info

3 add the location to where the file is being downloaded again can be usefull info

4 have the download maneger popup when the download is finished dont like that lil pop up in the bottom courner to easy to miss if ya away from ya comp when the download is finished

Other than that OUTSTANDING job :D keep up the good work

now if only we can get these changes made offical and have then add saving of partley done files so they can be resumed later if ya get d/c while downloading then the download maneger will be done

hell if i could work out how id make an addon for the download maneger to save partley done file my self but alass i got no programming knolage dam guess ill have to ask around

Interesting...
I still am unable to DL that file Bethrezen.
Thanks for the reply though.

Hopefully it will get posted on the Extension page or someone would be kind enough to
email it to me.

I would also like to tell andman42 that is does look awesome and is a far cry from the standard DL mgr.
