Well... Looks like it's Firefox 2.0.0.3 and later that's broken... Looking at the comments for the "New Tab Homepage" extension I see:

"I'm using 0.3 and FF 2.0.0.3 on XP sp2 and recently it appears to have stopped working and now only produces an untitled page"

and for the "Tabbrowser Preferences" extension:

"But, lately I've noticed that the open new tab to home page does not open to the home page but to a black page instead."

- so you may not be able to fix it at all as it seems like Firefox has begun overriding extensions in this apect.

WHITE STREAKS OVER TAB/STATUS BARS

Post by Threshold »

Hi there,

I just installed your extension and unfortunately gives me the following problem:

At one point a Speed Dial window will appear, over the current web page, taking 3/4 of the screen and opening the Sidebar.
The saved, numbered tabs start to rotate.

Then the Speed Dial window disappears but leaves a white streak over the 3/4 of the Tab Bar and half of (horizontally) the Status Bar.
If the Sidebar is open the streaks resurfaces there too.
This prevents the covered portion of the Tab Bar to be accessed.

It's like the initial white Speed Dial window slid under the web page.

If i hide the Tab bar the white streak disappears but not from the Status Bar.

I love your extension but, at present, I have to uninstall it.

I am using the latest FFox release and Classic Compact theme.

Let me know if you need any more info.

Take care

I always test against the latest Firefox version, and I assure your that, without extension conflicts, it works perfectly fine in the latest Firefox release :)

I try to make my changes as "consistent" with the Firefox structure as possible, so it generates less conflicts and will keep working between Firefox versions (at least, the .0.0.* changes).

Unfortunately, some extensions change the way things work internally... so I've to add a workaround. Usually, I've to add specific checks for that extension and do things differently, and that's what I guess I'll have to do that with Tabbrowser Preferences.

Some users have reported this same error... this is my "background browser", which is the one that will create the thumbnails. Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce this error.

Do you have any other extensions installed? I believe that it can be a conflict. Also, you're using Windows, right?

Hi again Josep,

Yes I do have several other extension installed.
Do you know of any quick way to list them all for you?
To write each one of them to you would take about forever (I have more than 50).

And yes I am running on WIN XP SP2.

If you want I could send you via email a capture screen of the problem if it could be of any help.
If so let me know at which address.

Also if there is anything that is listed in the Error Console that I could send to you let me know but you'll need to explain to me what to do cause I don't understand any of that stuff.

Take care and keep up the good work.

There are several extensions that will list all your addons... my favorite is Mr Tech Local Install. Another way some people use is to make an screenshot of the addons panel, but if you've 50, you better use something that will take the list.

I think that the best way to solve a problem is to try to make it happen on my system, so that's why I need your extension list :)

Thanks for the list! Once I've identified the problem, I'll post information about it in this thread.

A conflict with another extension, maybe? :) You may check the thread for that extension here.

I've been trying to replicate the problem described above (white rectangle overlaying the tab area), but although I installed all the "suspicious" extensions on the list, I couldn't replicate it... If anyone else is reading this post, and has the same problem, post your extension list here, so I can I to duplicate the error on my system. Once I can do that, it's really easy to solve, but until that, I'm really in the dark :(

speed dial access problem

Post by parth123 »

:)
Hi
I have recently upgraded to speed dial 0.4.1 in my Firefox browser version 2.0.0.7. My speed dial is set in the toolbar.
But after the upgrade when I click on any link saved in the Speed dial drop down, this open a new tab in a 3x3 layout :!: #-o
Earlier it used to open the link in a new tab!!
How to do this in the new version?

I'm sorry about that, that's a bug in 0.4.1 that is already solved in my development version... I'll publish a new release soon with that fixed.

Hey, great extension. I installed the Opera 9.5 alpha mainly because of this interesting sounding feature and lo and behold I can reproduce it in my preferred browser (I find yours better even). One thing I would like to see is having multiple "kepads", if you will. I'd like to add more sites without sacrificing the size of each thumbnail by having multiple rows/columns, and this could be done by having multiple pages. Something like the Wii's Channel Browser comes to mind.

(arrows to scroll to unseen dialkeys). Also, this could be useful in Showcase as well >_>

I searched through the 11 pages of this thread and did not find this (searched meaning I used Fx word search on every page, but I may have not looked for the right terms).

I would love to see a feature to manually load the speed dial whenever I want to - I have it set to not load on the last tab, to load on new tabs, but sometimes when I close my tabs and get to the last tab, I do want to load it, and rather than having to load a new tab (which leaves that annoying last blank tab) I'd like to load it in that last blank tab - but not *automatically* only when I want.

In fact, the option to load this manually at any time in the current tab (or a new tab, as selectable by the user) would be great.

Other than that it works like a champ.

Thanks for the suggestion, I also think it would be a good addition. The next features I'm planning to add are related to the control configuration, but after I'll consider implementing the feature you're suggesting. I was thinking in some kind of tabbed interface for the Speed Dial tab :)

You can "manually" load Speed Dial by adding the "Speed Dial" button in the toolbar (and clicking on it), or loading the "chrome://speeddial/content" URL in the browser. Of course, I'm not asking you to type that everytime you want to use it, but, for instance, you can add a bookmark to that.

You can disable the option to load in the last tab in the "advanced" tab of the Speed Dial settings dialog.
