need to start/stop the throbber when loading a page and place a message in the status bar - pretty standard stuff. there seems to be a lot of waiting cursor without any indication anything is happening. can you use a cache to not reload pages already loaded?

Actually from what I found, most people don't use the throbber. I found that out after quite a few bug reports about the two mini icons not being set. That's cause they didn't have the throbber on the toolbar. And it should say "loading message..." in the status bar when such thing is loading.

who do you mean "most people"? your model, if you are pretending to add browsing, should be what Fx does when loading a page, which employs throbber and tells details of what it's loading in statusbar. there's even throbber in individual tabs. check it out.. and Tb comes with one standard on the toolbar..

i suggested using Fx before. why redo the wheel when all this browser stuff has been done, and you can just reuse Fx widgets and methods, and have a professional looking app vs. bits and pieces. anyway, thanks for the great concept, i'll revisit when it's further along.

btw, good to have taken out the snarky bit.

By most people, I mean the people that complained that none of the icons showed up. I found the cause was that none of them have the throbber showing. Since the buttons try to place themselves where the throbber is.

i suggested using Fx before.

I hate it when people don't listen. Allow me to quote Phillip and I:

Phillip Chee wrote:This is doable in SeaMonkey's MailNews, but I don't think Thunderbird builds with all the interfaces (e.g. session history) that the Firefox tabbrowser uses.

And he's right.

alta88 wrote:your model, if you are pretending to add browsing, should be what Fx does when loading a page

And once again:

I wrote:This extension is not [meant] to replace a browser. It is however, to allow one to surf the web quickly or visit a few links.

Some people have made it a replacement browser, which is nice to hear, but I never intended it to be a replacement.

Oh and you say:

You wrote:why redo the wheel, you can just reuse Fx widgets and methods

Because not all of it is there!

You wrote:i'll revisit when it's further along.

You said that last time. After I put in a fix for the RSS news header thing.

Do you think it is possible that you might be able to add a Properties box into Thunderbird to handle links in both the web feature of your extension and in emails?

I have wanted to get Torisugari's Extended Link Properties extension to work in Thunderbird for several years now, but Thunderbird does not have a Properties context menu item. If you cannot add this functionality into ThunderBrowse, perhaps you might be able to adapt Extended Link Properties to do it? Here is my modified version. It works on the latest versions of Firefox, Flock and Netscape. (The original version only worked on old versions of Firefox.)

Extended Link Properties 1.2.5

See this MozillaZine topic for more information and advice from Philip Chee. I am not good enough at coding to make the required changes.

people don't listen to things that are just wrong. or stated with poor grammar.

lack of Tb building with certain Fx interfaces does not mean they can't be added. anyone with the Gecko SDK and who knows what 'make' and 'idl' are would understand. it's clear this sort of extension is way beyond the scope here.

frankly, this extension would never pass a serious code review.

Hello,

I have installed Thunderbrowse 2.8.5 (on TB 1.5)
When copying any URL in the URL window URL does not launch.

Instead gives 'Address Not Found'
I am using Firefox 2.0 as the default Browser...

does anyone have an idea?

thanks
Bas

Maybe your proxy went down for awhile and decided not to respond.
