BTW: You might be interested in the Status-4-Evar extension which includes Fission-like capabilities tailored for Firefox 4.0.

Unfortunately I'm supporting the status bar removal. I like the new addon bar and use a style to make it as close to the original mockup as it could get. S4E is breaking the style. So for now will hold off from using this extension. They've landed the new throbbers and only TabMix Plus to get updated with the new changes and will see if I'll like the design where Fx4 is headed.
Still the PL was good idea and Fission was the best while it was working.
Anyway thank you for the information.

As of this week, S4E now replicates Fission and adds a host of other options.

All that PL-stuff goes to /dev/null - what a huge waste of power, time and - most importantly - human craftsmanship.. FF4 was on its way to be a "Boom, what an awesome design!"-break-through; but the UX-team - IMHO at least - has no guts to discuss and fight through problems.

Instead, they're going an old-fashioned way with an old design that - again, IMHO at least - breaks the otherwise just beautiful design-mockup.

Hopefully, the downloads-panel (see http://www.stephenhorlander.com/images/ ... d-win7.png) will make its way into the final release..

Do you have a bug id for tthe downloads panel?
I myself didn't like the progress lines. Hardly noticeable. I think the pie chart was the best so far, it displayed some progress, and it was also noticable. This new one just spins, and consumes crazy cpu time. For ff3 I use fission with tab-mix plus's tab background progress bars.

I enjoyed the progress lines, because it was possible to increase their height through CSS ;)
The fact that the new spinner consumes that much CPU-time is pure fun for me, because it was another reason, they dropped the progress lines.. ^^

Regarding the download-panel: nope, didn't find one; IMHO it purely exists as an idea, no actual code written, yet.. :(

There is a thread on Firefox 4.0 Features:

viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1961093

It is not meant to be an argument thread, but you should be able to find the information you are looking for there.

I would, but if FF4 already has built-in feature why should I? ;)
A progress bar in address bar is all I need..

Progress bars didn't make it to 4.0 because of severe performance problems. They really ate up with resources!

This wish I can grant: I've updated the first post to reflect the fact that I'm still looking for somebody to take over development and recommend the Status-4-Evar extension until that happens.

It is really a cool extension for visualizing the web progress.... thanks the author...

however, I have a question that how does Fission compute the web page progress? by the receiving bytes? or number of received objects inside the page?

since I found that, different web pages behaves quite differently in the progress. Some pages can be rendered and being seen by the user just at the beginning of the web progress; while for some other pages, although it is shown by Fission that they are almost fully loaded, it is still nothing or very little content displayed on the screen.
