The latest version is mailtweak-1.0pre10.xpi, which is (I think) from 2008.

No.

Mail Tweak has not been supported for years. I would not bother trying it. Try other supported plug-ins from the Thunderbird add-ons section.

I want to find add-on that show log of RSS-account-work (for example, list of wrong RSS-feeds).
If I use part of code from Mail Tweak - can it work with Thunderbird 13 - or it prefer to write code "from clear list" ?

German Translation of mailtweak.mozdev.org, chapter about Personalize Messages:
I translated it for my own use and leave it here for some other germanophones. You may also put on the mailtweak.mozdev.org page. It is human translation by a native speaker.

Personalisierte Nachrichten

On the Homepage, it means: «To use Mail Tweak, you should normally have Thunderbird 3.0 or a later release.» Witch is the newest version of Thunderbird that works with MailTweak?

I do not know. But it is no longer maintained, and has not worked properly for years. Really, there is no point in trying to use MailTweak.

howdy annalinda,

as others have said, the extension is NOT supported any more.

if you want to use it, you can read back thru this thread and find a reference to one of the "force install" methods and then use it at your own risk.

a better thing to do is to list what part you want to use and ask for references to _new_ extensions that cover the desired function. for some functions there is no replacement, but there are ways to do some things that MT included.

ask ... the worst that will happen is you will be ignored! [*grin*]

I have already tried this way, but, well, I try again.
Mail Tweak had ability to assign 2-digits tags, say, 18, by using keyboard hotkyes (while Thunderbird natively lets only 1-digit hotkeys for tags from 0 to 9). It but it was highly useful and, at the first glance, it should not be very complex task in its technical aspect. However non of currently working extensions offer such functionality :(
I've tried Tag Toolbar https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunde ... ag-toolbar , but this add-on is focused on other tasks. Well, it lets use Alt+<digit> to assign two-digits tags, but it needs using extra prefixes and pstfixes as I -> Alt+<digit> -> I, so the whole sequence is quite complex. Besides this combination Alt+<digit> is hardcoded without any option to change it - and it conflicts with QuickFolders hotkeys Alt+<digit> (move to another folder #), where it is hardcoded too...
So any simple and convenient solution for assigning tags, as Mail Tweak offered long time ago, would be highly appreciated.

howdy Leopoldus,

[1] have you tried to force install MT yet?
if you install this extension ...
Disable Add-on Compatibility Checks :: Add-ons for Thunderbird

... it will allow you to install out-of-date extensions.

SOME of what MT does will still work. the exact things that work are steadily decreasing as tbird gets more changes. the usual method is to install MT, disable EVERYTHING in it other than the one thing you want, restart tbird, and then test.

it may work. it _pro'ly_ won't work. there is no harm in trying since you can easily uninstall MT if that one thing does not work.

[2] contact the author of tag tool bar
here's a valid link to the extension ...
Tag Toolbar :: Add-ons for Thunderbird

the author is somewhat active - mostly with his google sync extension - and may be able to do what you want if you can give him a clear use case. heck, he may be able to borrow the code [or at least the logic behind the code] from MT to do what you want.

take care,

Mail Tweak for Thunderbird 17.0

Post by mlegler »

hello

I wanted to install MailTweak on my current and latest version of Thunderbird which reads 17.0. But the latest Mail Tweak download page says:
Mail Tweak is an extension for Thunderbird 3 (with an older version available for Thunderbird 2).

What's going on? I tried mailtweak-1.0pre10.xpi and also the previous mailtweak-0.16.xpi (from http://downloads.mozdev.org/mailtweak/), but both moans:
Mail Tweak could not be installed because it is not compatible with Thunderbird 17.0.

Where can I get a compatible version?
Thank you and best regards

howdy mlegler,

as has been posted _many_ times in the last dozen or so pages, the mail tweak extension is abandoned and no longer developed.

as was posted in the msg immediately above yours, there is a way to force MT to install. some of the features will still work, most will fail, a few will cause problems with running tbird.

the same message-before-yours mentions the usual way to get _some_ things working as well as possible with an abandoned piece of software like MT.

good luck! [*grin*]

What a wonderful offer -- I didn't notice it before.

It would be great if you borrow the MT code for hiding the Local Folders and package it up in a new addon or add it to one you already have.

howdy Kruskal,

note that it wasn't an offer ... [*grin*] it was a recommendation to contact someone _else_ about adding the function to their code. i aint a programmer in any way whatsoever.

i haven't asked for it to be added since i don't use that function. you will need to ask him yourself - and include a use case so he can see if it interests him enuf to put in the work.

update to 17.0 finally broke my mailtweak. My wife is going nuts!

I will donate $'s to help get this back.

Can I downgrade to TB 3.0 and not loose my folders and mail?
