howdy mrbil,

you can downgrade and _probably_ have no problems. there are a few internal changes in some files that may bite you, but if you make a backup you otta be able to get around that.

before you do that, tho, what specific mailtweak items were you using that you can't bear to do without? someone may be able to point you to another way to get the same effect ...

take care,
lee

Mail Tweak is incompatible with TB17. To make compatible, must "bump"

how to bump Mail Tweak for use in Thunderbird 17
    install 7-zip

after downloading the Mail Tweak .xpi file, right click the .xpi file
    click 7-zip
      click Open archive

    right-click install.rdf
    click Edit

look for this set of lines:
      <em:targetApplication><!-- Thunderbird -->
      <Description
      em:id="{3550f703-e582-4d05-9a08-453d09bdfdc6}"
      em:minVersion="1.5"
      em:maxVersion="3.*" />
    change: 3.*
    . . . .to: *.*

    close Notepad
      click Save
Do you want to update it in the archive?
      click Yes

Your help with downgrading and force installing xpi advice was appreciated.

Somehow my fonts changed on update to 17 and some add-ons were booted and my mail list display font no longer went from bold to regular when mail was "read". I mistakenly and (shamefully admitting  ) thought that this functionality had been a result of mailtweak. after down grading and force installing mailtweak I discovered (apology  ) that was not the case. #-o

Thankyou for your replies. This is one helpful and useful forum!

Hi,

followed your way of making installation of mail tweak possible.
Works.
But not really: I can not edit the tags in the settings.
Nor in the standard view (no tags listed anymore) neither in the newly added area in the settings window.
I can add as many tags as I want by right-clicking on a mail in the list in the normal mail-view and they are numbered > 9, too. But no chance to edit or delete a single one.
I still have to do that in the pref.js. :(
No Problem for me, but for the other people in our company, who just want to use the client...

Any idea, how to fix this?

I am using TB 15 / Win7 and some machines XP in the moment

cargo_B:

Mail Tweak has been discontinued for three years already.

Mail Tweak will not work properly.

You would be best advised to look for other add-ons that can provide similar functionality.

howdy cargo_B,

as Paddy Landau pointed out, the extension is WAY out of date and will NOT be fixed. so your best bet is to move to another method.

if all you want is to edit tags, then that is already built into tbird. it's done thus ...
- tools/options/display/tags

at that point you should see a list of the current tags and the add/edit/delete buttons.

if you want to look into other tag-oriented extensions, take a look at this one ...
Tag Toolbar :: Add-ons for Thunderbird

i'm using it with tb17.0.6 and having no problems at all.

take care,

Anything for Thunderbird for Mac OS?

I MUCH prefer TB to (Apple's) Mail, but inability to highlight specific text easily is a pain.

Mail Tweak looks like it would do the job if it will work with MacOS
