cma6, this extension is not for the sidebar, but for the main Library window. The extension closer to what you want is "Go Parent Folder", also by alice.

Look at the image at the start of this topic! 'Show parent folder' works with the library (organise bookmarks), not the bookmarks sidebar.
You need 'Go parent folder' for the sidebar.
It would be great if Alice could combine the two extensions, one day, but right now you need to install them separately.

Yes, you are right.
When I tried Show parent, there was no option on my context menu. However, Go Parent does have a context menu option which works: it takes you to the Parent bookmark folder. So it's a rather clumsy way of finding the location of the bookmark but it does work.

So use the library to review your bookmarks. 'Show parent folder' adds a column that enables you to see at a glance the parent folder - very useful after a search.

Can not install on FF3.
I get the following when I try to install Show Parent. "Firefox could not install the file at
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... 1.3-fx.xpi
because: Invalid file hash (possible download corruption)
-261"
I get a similar message when I try to install Go parent as well

Hehe I had the same problem and it took me a (big) while to figure that out.

Re: [Ext]Show Parent Folder
"Show Parent Folder" some additional documentation
To display the column in Organize bookmarks once the extension is installed. Within Library (Organize Bookmarks), Views (menu), Show Columns, select Parent Column.
One can drag the columns in the table to reposition the order, and can resize the column by dragging the side of the column, and description I keep very narrow, you can mouse over to see the tooltip full description of anything item that is not completely shown.
My order for now is: Name, Keyword, Location, Parent Folder, Description
The addon has an option to show the complete location hierarchy to turn it on use Tools, Add-ons, select "Show Parent Folder", click on the option. With the option on the tool tip for parent folder will show the full hierarchy.

Not just the tooltip, the contents of the "Parent Folder" column shows the complete hierarchy. You will only see a tooltip if the contents of the column are truncated.

Very useful extension. This is exactly that I want, but is one fault - when I have folder in folder in folder .. column "Parent Folder" don't show full path but only last Folder

Check the Show folder hierarchy setting in Tools > Add-ons > Extensions > Show Parent Folder > Options. I think that will give you the display you want.

Re: [Ext]Show Parent Folder
awesome add-on. +1 for merging this with the "Go to Parent Folder".
One other suggestion: with the show folder heirarchy turned on, could we get an option to display the path as:
Bookmarks Menu\folder\subfolder\... (like Windows)
so basically option to replace the space & / with a \

Re: [Ext]Show Parent Folder
Hi, Alice. Just to let you know, Show Parent Folder doesn't seem to work well on a Mac. It's possible the user misinterpreted the results. I don't know. Since I can't verify the problem, I'm mentioning it only here. I'm not mentioning this on AMO because I don't want to discourage any other Mac users from trying it out.
