This is a possibility. It'd be easier (if I'm including any sort of re-ordering) to have checkboxes next to each item, so that you can choose which you want.

I think in-Firefox deletion of search-plugins is coming (hopefully for Firefox 1.1 - though they might mess up and forget to change anything or even put back the features they took out for 1.0), but it'll probably be years before you can re-order the searchplugins within Firefox.

middle click support! :)

(ha ha everyone's subscribed to thread i see)

Any plans to update this to work with the nightlies?

It already works in the nightlies (at least, functionally) - you might need to change the appVersion number in about:config to allow it to install though. I'll likely release a new version before Firefox 1.1's final release.

Could the new version have the option to include Quick Searches?

I probably won't add that functionality, since a number of extensions already do this:
- ConQuery
- SmartSearch
- Kontext Keywords

It would be nice to have one extension that does both, so that all the searches appear under one submenu.

I'm pretty sure ConQuery does it all... I looked at it originally and decided to make this extension instead because I didn't want the extra stuff that it adds.

It does work with the nightlies, and installs fine without even having to edit install.rdf (as long as extensions.lastAppVersion is set to 1.0 in about:config)

I've got a 0.3rc1 for anyone watching this thread. It's intended for Firefox Branch nightly builds ("Bon Echo" alpha 1 and newer).

Compatibility: Firefox 2.0a1 and newer only.

Install: http://www.cusser.net/extensions/contex ... 0.3rc1.xpi

Updates:
- Support for new search plugin format (Firefox 2.0a1 and onwards).
- Search engine order is now respected.
- Menu item appears for textarea selections.
- Respects tab preference "Select new tabs opened from links".
- Middle-click support (inverts tab selection behaviour).
- Encodes "+" characters (improves search engine support).

Great work Ben! It works fine with my copy of Minefield (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.2; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060530 Minefield/3.0a1).

Ignore my previous message about 403 errors with your site.

I just upgraded to the latest Minefield trunk (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.2; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060618 Minefield/3.0a1) and it has stopped working again.

I downloaded the previous two builds, the 16th of June (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.2; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060616 Minefield/3.0a1) and that works but the 17th June build (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.2; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060617 Minefield/3.0a1) doesn’t. So I guess it was caused by a change in the trunk builds from the 17th onwards.

Just outstanding, Cusser. BonEcho's recently added ability to properly manage search engines, plus this GREAT 8k extension = LOTS of functionality.
Best of all it doesn't change the default engine in the "box." I'm using search engines for the first time in a long time. Thank you.

I'll check into that sometime, but so long as it works on the branch I'm fairly happy for now - my primary concern was getting this ready for Firefox 2.0.

Thanks for the kind words guys :)
