Please forgive me if this is a known bug, but I've found that if you double click an .htm or .html file, it won't open in SM, but instead simply open up a new browser window (and in my case my homepage Google). You instead have to manually use Apple-O to locate the file and open it.

I'm positive that in the past, you were simply able to double click on a web document to bring it up. What's changed, or have I fubared my settings somehow?

WFM.
I'm not on a Mac, but other than that, the same version you are using.
Are you doing that with SM already running?
What are the settings in your Preferences window for Display on Browser Startup (or if it's already running, Display on New Window)?

I don't use Macs, but they're anything like Windows, there's a database (in Windows it's the registry) or a file that contains file/program associations. Since on your Mac, double clicking on the .html file opens SeaMonkey, the association is still there. But, as in Windows, there are probably command line options that are stored in the database that tell the program what to do when it opens. In the Windows registry, the command would look something like seamonkey.exe %1, with the %1 indicating the name of the file that was double clicked. I suspect that's what you are missing.
But then again, I may be wrong.

There is no registry on the Mac, in other words no massive central repository for all sorts of system data. The various databases are stored in either the system or user library folder, as a preference list file in most cases. The association methodology is largely opaque to the end user, and things like command argument variables are not easily accessed or well documented.

You can change file associations by doing a Get Info on a file of the type you are wishing to associate, then using the Open With settings which offers to change the setting for all files of the same type.

Alright here's some more information. These are my 'Display On' settings:

Seamonkey is set to be my default browser, so clicking on any htm or html should have it opened in SM.

One interesting thing I found is if I quit SM, and then double click an html file, it WILL open in SM upon it opening. However, double clicking on an html file while SM is open will simply bring up my homepage.

Thank you in advance! Here is a squirrel in appreciation of your help!

I have the same problem with SeaMonkey 2.0 on an iMac with Mac OS 10.5.8. It is driving me up the wall, because I keep a lot of information as HTML documents, and I edit these with SeaMonkey. I used to be able to double-click on one in the Finder, or right-click (my mouse has more than one button) and select "Open With". Neither of these work any more, and since I still have the installer for SM 1.1.18 I am considering going back to that.

If I am _launching_ SeaMonkey by double-clicking on a file (no windows already open), it _does_ open the file I double-click, but if I have one window open, it launches my home page instead.

I have tried all three settings for "display on new window" - it makes no difference.

By the way, when I try "Open With" I get the choice of:
SeaMonkey.app
SeaMonkey.app (default)
Is this reasonable?

I just wanted to comment that I'm having a similar problem. I'm running SeaMonkey 2.0 on OS 10.6.1, and when I try to open locally saved .htm or .html files by double-clicking, I just get a blank page in SeaMonkey. Attempting to edit the page shows that it truly is blank - SeaMonkey isn't pulling in the information contained in the file. This is a problem for files saved with both the previous and current versions of SeaMonkey. Opening the file from within SeaMonkey using cmd-O is successful. If anyone comes up with a work-around, I'd love to hear it!

Same here. SeaMonkey 2.0 on OS 10.6.1.
I hope this is a bug and it will be fixed soon!

Here's a crude work around.

Double click on an html file. This opens to a blank window instead of opening the file in the window.
Drag the html file to the blank window. This opens the file in the browser window.

Command E will then edit the file in the Composer.

**** If there is a way to double click on an html file and have it open in Composer, I sure like to use it! *****
