That crappy browser won't support MNGs until they're used on the web, and they won't be used on the web until some browser supports them. The fact is someone needs to support it before they're commonly used, and I think Mozilla browsers are the perfect ones to do it -- they're used by much more of the population than other non-IE browsers, and have far better support for newer standards than IE. If anyone, Mozilla should be the first ones to implement the new standards, such as MathML, SVG, XForms, and MNG.

Support free alternatives
I have converted all my animated .gif(s) to .mng(s) using Gimp and I would like to use .mng(s) on my upcoming website and would like my browser to support the free alternative (.mng) for animated .gif .
Go for FLOSS !

It looks like there's been a bunch of action on the bug to provide native support lately. Still no sign as to when it would make it into an official release. I haven't tested it yet, but there does seem to be at least one Firefox MNG plugin.

Is it possible to maybe just fix this for SeaMonkey, rather than globally? I presume that it's a build issue, so it could be built for SeaMonkey but not for Firefox.
