Windows Seamonkey "Send To" > "Mail Recipi

Post by casio7131 »

Windows XP SP2
Seamonkey nightly trunk builds: 20061124 and 20061201

From explorer, right click a file and selecting "Send To" > "Mail Recipient" throws an error (http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/4720 ... rortz3.png):
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE
R6034
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Note, the previous nightly build that I was using (2006083009) did not display this problem (ie. I could attach and send files in this way with no error).

Also, I did a bit of searching and found this:

There have been any number of bugs lately relating to MSVCR80.dll (at least I think thats what it was?).
Might that have some bearing on what you're seeing?
Here's one: copy image to other app and crash on exit
Fire 750, bring back 250.

error still exists in build:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a2pre) Gecko/20061223 SeaMonkey/1.5a

some more searching and these also seem somewhat related:

I didn't check the error output. But it is 100% reproducible for me. Right click on a file to send it to a mail recipient and windows spooges with the "doh - send error report" pop-up. Using SM 1.0.7 btw.

For me, in any build of 1.1 past 20061011 that I have tried, "sendto mail recipient" is completely broken.

No error message, it simply does nothing.

See bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=364675 I filed on bugzilla.

Merely reinstalling the older version over the newer one fixes it again.

I hope someone picks this up, as we use it a lot, and therefore we can't use any more recent version of Seamonkey til it gets fixed.

i decided to try the 1.1 builds and the "send to" seems to be working properly. i tested the 1.1rc (~11/1/2007) and this nightly:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.2pre) Gecko/20070117 SeaMonkey/1.1

hopefully they'll port the necessary changes to 1.5 soon after they release 1.1.

Casio, could you please check if this is working for you when Seamonkey is completely shut down?

I have the exact same version you do (1.1 dated 11/1/2007), and after doing the regsevr32 thing, I have it working while Seamonkey Mail is open.

However, it does not work when Seamonkey is completely closed, whereas older versions used to "autostart" when you do the sendto.

YES, it is "working" when seamonkey is closed

some starting notes (that may be important?):
* i only ever use the zip versions (not the installers)
* i always install to c:\progs\seamonkey (and i keep and rename old versions)
* i have not done the regsevr32 thing (mentioned in bugzilla 361233), nor any other "hacks" (eg. in 364675 --- i just went back to using an older sm version where "send to" was working)
* i'm on a different computer to the one i was using for my previous post (where it seemed to "work")

i have tested this on 2 different 1.1 versions (1.1rc and a recent nightly):
* Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.2pre) Gecko/20070111 SeaMonkey/1.1
on this computer i'm using:
* Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.2pre) Gecko/20070117 SeaMonkey/1.1

testing:
* i closed all seamonkey windows and did the right click "send to" and sm started up automatically and i was able to send/receive a test email.
* it also "works properly" when sm is open.
* i also tested using other programs (textpad 4.7.3 and word 2003) and it "works" (when sm is open/closed)

so these sm 1.1 versions are working for me with no modifications necessary on my part. not really sure why you're still having problems. (if you use the installer, maybe try uninstalling and then using zip version instead (i'm just guessing now!).)

just looking at your first comment Rob_S
For me, in any build of 1.1 past 20061011 that I have tried, "sendto mail recipient" is completely broken.

the previous version of sm that i was using on this computer (where "send to" worked when sm was open/closed) was:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20061022 SeaMonkey/1.5a

so it seems that 1.1 got broken before 1.5. (not sure if this is important, but it's something that i just noticed.)

It seems possible that the zip installer does not affect the windows registry.

Even though another party reported that it broke when he chose Seamonkey as his default email client, which would probably go into the registry then.

So, beats me, got no more time to try various combinations, hopefully they fix it properly.

The registry patch posted today on Bugzilla fixes this issue for me completely in Seamonkey 1.1 .

Registry patch:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{29F458BE-8866-11D5-A3DD-00B0D0F3BAA7}]
@="Mozilla MAPI"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{29F458BE-8866-11D5-A3DD-00B0D0F3BAA7}\LocalServer32]
@="C:\\Program Files\\mozilla.org\\SeaMonkey\\seamonkey.exe /MAPIStartUp"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{29F458BE-8866-11D5-A3DD-00B0D0F3BAA7}\ProgID]
@="MozillaMapi.1"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{29F458BE-8866-11D5-A3DD-00B0D0F3BAA7}\VersionIndependentProgID]
@="MozillaMapi"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\MozillaMapi]
@="Mozilla MAPI"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\MozillaMapi\CLSID]
@="{29F458BE-8866-11D5-A3DD-00B0D0F3BAA7}"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\MozillaMapi\CurVer]
@="MozillaMapi.1"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\MozillaMapi.1]
@="Mozilla MAPI"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\MozillaMapi.1\CLSID]
@="{29F458BE-8866-11D5-A3DD-00B0D0F3BAA7}"

Yes, this registry patch is OK but it only worked FOR ME (2 different computers) together with to other operations:

regsvr32 sendmail.dll

regsvr32 MapiProxy.dll (which is located in the SeaMonkey installation folder)

as suggested in other forums

still not working for me on the sm 1.5 (trunk) nightlies:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a2pre) Gecko/20070123 SeaMonkey/1.5a

looks like i'll go back to 1.1 --- i don't want to do the registry patch, so i'll just wait until it's fixed properly (and check back on 1.5 every week or so).
