SeaMonkey 2.53.15b1 pre 09/25/22

Post by frg »

As of the current 09/25 build 2.53.15b1 pre profiles are no longer fully backwards compatible again. We added some locale stuff which needed some pref migrations.

We also added the stuff from https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1385416 so please check add-ons. It might be possible to delay this one a bit if the house burns down again but in the mid term we need to clean up the locale stuff for web compatibility.

NSS and NSPR have been updated to the latest ESR102 version so if you use custom or self signed certificates please check here too.

Please test

So far, so good.
Autoplay Toggle (Non-Restartless) 1.0.2
ChatZilla 0.15b1pre
Cookie Monster [converted] 1.3.4.8
DOM Inspector 2.0.19
ImportExportTools 3.3.2
Lightning 5.8.15
Manually sort folders 1.1.0
PDF Viewer 2.3.235
Quote Colors 0.3
SeaMonkey Debug and QA UI 2.0.11
SQLite Manager 0.8.3.1-signed.1-signed
uBlock Origin 1.16.4.30
Looks like it works without problems, for me.

On first start of 09/26 - with "existing" Profile*, I got a "Default Client" prompt.
Maybe that has to do with the way I actually went about things, this time?

(Actually I "installed" SeaMonkey into /X/, & copied existing Profile, sans /cache2/, opening with:
X\seamonkey.exe -profile PROFILE -no-remote)

Image

CopyURL+, looks to work (in the various modes I have it set to use).

Fetch Text URL, looks good.

Github is broken, but I'll assume that is a change on their end?
https://github.com/GyanD/codexffmpeg/releases/tag/5.1.2
("Assets" don't expand, so can't download.)
[JustOff's github-wc-polyfill gets things working.]

A "direct" link to a file on Github (https://vidcoder.net/) does work.
Likewise, FlashGot can download it.)

NoScript looks good.

uBlock Origin too.

ChatZilla opens.

DOMi & Lightning both enabled (& had been disabled).
(I don't use either, so that's as much as I can say with them.)

My Everything bookmarklet works, so all is good.

---

AMVersionNumber@Aris_CTRdev.xpi, which I had "installed", but (for a long time now) disabled, immediately broke about:addons, once enabled. (Don't know if that is a 09/26 issue or if the same would have happened for some time now?)
["Hard remove", restart, & I'm back.]
Fire 750, bring back 250.

Not doing that, just opening my (real, pre-existing Profile) did not generate any Default Client popup.

That was me some time ago when I added back the version numbers and cleaned up old, crappy and unused stuff in about:addons.

Yes needs to be removed from the profile.

The internal add-ons should never break with changes we do. I am also using uBlock and NoScript Classic. If something affects them I will see that I/we fix it before pushing changes.

I am planning to remove the old sync bookmarks api in the next release. Prefed off and half broken already for a few releases and I don't think any working add-ons left which use it.

Thanks to all for testing.

Installing/operation/uninstalling on various themes with 2.53.15b1 all seems fine.

Lots of stuff under the hood but not many if any theme changes recently. An image fix here and a tweak there but that is it about it.
I wonder if we should kick out lightweight themes and start adding support for webext theme (or better skin) stuff in a future release. Lightweight is dead anyway and as long as full theme support is retained might be good for the future. That the webext stuff is a joke and must not impact full themes is clear :)

Clarify?

If "lightweight themes" are the "REAL" themes, like Frank Lion makes, then you absolutely do not want to ditch that.
Well, IMHO. (& I generally do not even use themes any more. I used to always use them.)
(And I'd guess, ?, that many users do use [real] themes, & that themes are one of the reasons users stay with SeaMonkey.)

What FF has is an absolute joke.
Even going so far as to need an actual extension (Firefox Color) if you want something that is (even remotely) "portable".
(And I think that portability requires Internet access too - or at least some kind of machinations...)

(FF's "themes" [& much like MS's Win10], & any I looked at, simply DO NOT WORK FOR ME, for my eyes, so I rolled my own [though I don't know where it is, "mine"], rather simple [in layout], but something I can deal with.)
Fire 750, bring back 250.

Yes right. Franks themes are full themes like Modern. No way we will kill them. The current Mozilla web ext themes are basically the successor of the Lightweight themes. Calling them theme is a joke by itself. Thin skin with colors and images is a better description imho.
