I don't know FDM, but NoScript acts as an intermediary between "links" & a download manager.

FlashGot does not do very well on Youtube.
(What I just looked at, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TljoPJqWdU, it saw 1 audio & 1 video stream - that you then need to MUX together [accomplished simply with ffmpeg]. Again FG has not been updated in ages. YT changes - all the time. There are many other formats, codecs & bitrates avavailable that FG does not see [on YT].)
(It does generally do fine most anywhere else.)

Now, as far as "Youtube" is concerned, FlashGot has not been updated in ages, YT changes, constantly, so FG does not work particularly well for "YT".

Additionally, FlashGot has had an issue with 0-byte files - when using the (Browser Built In) "downloader".
Not sure if that is an issue only on YT or everywhere?
(At this point, can't say I recall when it started? Perhaps with 2.53? Perhaps earlier?)

So what FlashGot "sees" (links it sees), it should be able to send the same to a download manager.

And I guess I wasn't too clear there, that would be, "to send the same to an EXTERNAL download manager".
So a truly external download manager should work fine. (I'm only particularly familiar with my download manager, Net Transport).
As well as an extension-based download manager. (Tested with DownThemAll. [And a "fix" for that, http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14764519.])

speaking of 2.53.x unofficial from wg9s, they're already at 2.53.3b1pre as soon as official SM 2.53.2 beta came out

after official SM 2.53.2 final came out, unofficial SM 2.53.4b1pre builds from wg9s are recently available

After SeaMonkey 2.53.3 BETA is ready to upload unofficial version hit the next step...

Not yet at this stage but we have set the level where we would want 2.53.3 to be. Just security backports and breakage fixes now. I think it should be ready for building in the next week.
