Possible shutdown problems on 2.53.5b1pre builds?

Post by RDaneel »

So, I have seen repeated manifestations of what are 2 [possibly related] problems during shutdown... with the last *3* nightly 64-bit "2.53.5b1pre" builds from Bill (from the 12th, 13th, and 14th of September) on my Win 10 Pro "2004" system.

Problem #1: seen on both the 12th and 13th builds but *not* the one from the 14th yet), sometimes the shutdown doesn't actually complete - after closing first the browser window (saying to save all tabs), and then the email window, everything looks to be gone in terms of the UI... until you try to, say, make a backup archive of the profile - then you find out that a number of profile files are being held open, by the not-really-departed SeaMonkey.exe process.
After a forced kill of the process, it does go away, and there *seem* to be no ill effects when you bring it up the next time - but this isn't good, and your profile could presumably be harmed(?).

Problem #2: seen on all 3 of the last nightlies, the actual "active" tab is not always remembered, resulting in SeaMonkey coming back when you restart displaying the 1st tab.

Cannot confirm (either).
(With all my regular extensions, in my case.)
(I also don't use Mail.)

Have you tested without extensions (to rule out extension related issue)?

(Now, windows ordering - along the Windows Taskbar, that is a different, long standing [huge, IMO] issue with 2.5x.
See, there is reason to be glad that 2.49 [where it is not an issue] is the latest for XP] ;).)
Fire 750, bring back 250.

#1 Happens only to me if I run 2.57 with classic NoScript or uBlock. Just hangs during shutdown till the internal timeout kills it.
A bookmarks backup is run during shutdown. If you have a large amount of them might take a bit and your antivirus might block a thing too.

#2 Not aware of any changes here in the last week.

2.53 and 2.57 are close but no cigar yet. Have even about 100 patches left I need to merge into 2.57 from 2.53. Copy the 2.53 profile and do as therube suggests is the best option. I use 3 profiles in the test vm. One 2.53 one 2.57 and one named test I just switch to if I want to switch versions or try something out.

This problem happens to me, rarely, not at shutdown but at boot; system hang, and I need to reboot.
Version 2.53.5 beta 1 pre.

what? HUH? :-?
why were you attempting to use SM 2.57 with classic NoScript and/or uBlock, frg?
doesn't 2.57 have any webextension support yet or not?

problem does not seem to occur with the 9/16 or higher build of SM 2.57 - the 9/16 build was the recent one I have as I did not update to newer ones yet
