Blank rectangles in FF toolbar (Mac)

Post by JohnDohe »

Hi,

I want to put back the blank rectangles into the far-left and far-right of my FF Toolbar.

When I initially installed FF these blank rectangles were there.

NB: I am not referring to the Search field

But then I (foolishly) Customized the FF toolbar by left-clicking & holding and dragging
each blank rectangle down to the "Additional Tools and Features" section thinking that
they'd be there whenever/if I wanted them back.

But lo and behold, as soon as I pulled them down from the FF toolbar, these blank
rectangles disappeared . . . forever.

One of my other computers has them

This is a screenshot of Customizing the FF toolbar by clicking the FF "hamburger" at the
far-right of the FF toolbar and selecting "Customize":
(to the left and right of the toolbar, look for This rectangle shown inside the rectangles I'm talking about)

This is what that Customization looks like "live":

How can I restore those blank rectangles?

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling FF to no avail.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Reason: Image tags removed to restore page formatting. (Mac) added to subject.

In current Firefox 63 or newer the customize panel includes "flexible space" which is what they call the rectangles and you can drag them into the toolbar. See the screen shot on this page https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cu ... d-toolbars
I assume you are using Firefox 52 for a reason though. In your customize screenshot in the bottom row is a button labeled "restore defaults" you could try that. Otherwise, making a Firefox new profile should bring them back.

I've tried restoring defaults - no good.

I'm using an older version of FF because my wonderful extensions that I love, do not work with later versions of FF.

I'll try a new FF profile.

Q: how would I save all my current customizations of my current profile and import them into a new FF profile?

Be careful adding a new profile you might inadvertently update. Are the spaces so important you would risk losing your current setup?

I don't know the answers to your other questions.

FWIW, I don't have the option to add blank space in the toolbar.

See this for information on transferring elements from one profile to another. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... _-_Firefox

See this thread, and specifically the comment from Yaron10: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... &t=3025870

It may be that you need to reduce the size of the search bars, and that comment tells how to do that.
