add ons

Post by jgrider »

Hello,
What's happened to some of the old add ons like these
I have,
Classic theme restorer, Classic toolbar button, Email this,Tabs on bottom, Theme font & size changer, ublock Origin, You tube download plus and others.

I'm going from Win.7 to 10 using f.f. 49.01. These add ons don't seem to be a available any more, or are they.
Has Mozilla sold out ?

Firefox 49 was released on September 20, 2016 - 2 1/2 years ago. Add-ons for Firefox 56 and earlier were removed from the Addons.Mozilla.Org a few months ago; those add-ons haven't been compatible with a currently supported Firefox version for quite awhile now.

You can look for the no longer supported Legacy extensions here:
http://legacycollector.org/firefox-addons/
https://github.com/JustOff/ca-archive
A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Mine has wandered off and I'm out looking for it.

Thanx for the reply. My big issue is that I can't focus on the small toolbar Icons that don't have titles which or a part of Win.10. I searched for bigger toolbar buttons with text but I can't find anything in Win.10

Do you happen to have a ling for discontinued T.B. addons ? I'm using ver. 45.8.1 on my current win. 7 machine

This Theme Font & Size Changer https://www.rossde.com/ThemeFontSizeChangerNoexpire/ will work on Thunderbird 52. It might work on other old versions.
Some old Thunderbird addons are here https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/ but they are mixed in with many for different versions. On the page for any extension, there is an old versions link.

If you have an extension you like on one computer, you often can install it on another computer. Extensions are sometimes stored as .XPI files in your profile folder. If you find the XPI you can drag and drop it into the addon manager page in the other computer. The extensions that aren't XPIs are extracted into a folder. You might be able to copy that folder to the other computer's profile to get the extension. Or, you can try restoring a backup or copying a whole profile to another computer to get all of its extensions.

If you need/want to keep using an old Firefox and you need to install the addon that Mozilla removed from AMO webpage.

Install the xpi addon "Classic Add-ons Archive" from https://github.com/JustOff/ca-archive/releases
Now you will have access to most of the information removed from AMO.

Hello,
I didn't work. Message saying F.F. has blocked unwanted add ons. Nothing I've tried like dragging an xpi file into add ons works. I get a message saying F.F. has blocked it.

This feels like big government knows what's best for me :(

CA-A, at least as of 1.2.2 is not signed.
Did FF 49 require signing?
Wonder if that is it?
(Even if it did, it can be disabled.)

Anyhow, why are you using FF 49 (& not at the least 52.9.0)?

To me, simply browsing legacycollector.org is easier.
(In the day, there used to be this website, what was it, oh yeah something like, addons mozilla org, but alas that ship has sailed.)
Fire 750, bring back 250.

Yes ca-archive requires to disable the signature checking for Firefox add-ons.

1. about:config (type it it into address bar)
2. xpinstall.signatures.required (set to false)

Firefox 47 was the last version that had the about:config built-in "override" (xpinstall.signatures.required set to false) for disabling the signing requirement. Firefox 48 and later wouldn't didn't have that pref and didn't allow it to be added. Overall, to me it makes little sense to stay with Firefox 49 and be stuck with needing to have signed extensions. The difference in security between 47 and 48 is very small today.

Oh, so that was last in 47.

Can still be bypassed, up to 55 with:

_readme-55.TXT:

Code: Select all

Copy config.js to:

        instalDir\config.js

Copy config-prefs.js to:

        instalDir\defaults\pref\config-prefs.js
config-prefs.js:

Code: Select all

pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0);
pref("general.config.filename", "config.js");
config.js:

Code: Select all

//
try {
 Components.utils.import("resource://gre/modules/addons/XPIProvider.jsm", {})
    .eval("SIGNED_TYPES.clear()");
}
catch(ex) {}
Fire 750, bring back 250.

I'm pretty sure 52.9.0 ESR supports it too - maybe because it is the final old-school ESR?

Least ways I'm using it to use unsigned add-ons without the config.js / config-prefs.js hack

In case you missed the mention by therube above, http://legacycollector.org/ has some old Firefox extensions. Firefox 52.9.0 is the most recent that can run legacy extensions, while Firefox 56.0.2 was the highest number that could. Despite its version number of 60.x, at the moment Thunderbird can use some old extensions, see here for more information - http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... &t=3041270

I currently running F.F. 49.0.1 in Win. 7 . It has about:config, and I set (xpinstall.signatures.required set to false)

ca-archive, and some extensions you may find are unsigned, and need to set to false xpinstall.signatures.required. This about:config flag is ignored and does not work in most versions higher than Firefox 47, even if it is created. 52.9.0ESR would listen to the flag. Posted above is a more complex way to disable signing requirement. What you have quoted suggests the easiest solution - if you install Firefox 47 over your version 49, that setting will work.
