Password manager is multiplying saved logons

Post by altus »

Hello everybody,

I had this "feature" in version 0.4, and now it still appears to be in 2002-11-25 (on Windows XP)

This happens without me saving new logons : strange ?

Did you do as you are supposed to when installing a new version of Phenix?

Ie delete BOTH the Phoenix folder as well as the profile folder in Application Data?
If not this is just spam. :)

Well I did delete the phoenix folder, then I started the profile manager, created a new profile and deleted the old.
Therefore I think I use Phonix with a brand new profile, am I right ?

At the beginning, everthing was fine, but after a while, these logons appeared progressively in the new profile, like they appeared in the old one.

By the way, how do I delete saved logons ?

Sounds like it yes.

Don't think that's in yet.
For the recored I'm not seeing this problem of yours in any build I've used sofar on Win98SE (though I never had 1125 IIRC).

Anyway, a mod should probably move this thread to the BUGS section.

I just had this happen yesterday for the first timewith Windows Build 1201 (but, I'll admit, I didn't blow out my last profile this time). I just downloaded 1202, and I'll do a new profile for that and report back if I see a problem.

Try deleting your old profile via Profile Manager, then deleting the Phoenix program files and reinstalling. If you deleted the profile, the the passwords shouldn't have been carried forward. The only time I've had accumulation of passwords is when I put in a wrong password and I have to tell it to save my new password.

O.K. So I deleted my 11-25-02 profile, then phonix 11-25-02 and installed the 12-03-02 version. For the moment I have no password saved, which is all right.

If logons multiply again, I'll post here.

PS : I get the problem only on this Forum : http://forum.hardware.fr (in french)

I have poked around with this problem for quite some time now,
and no solution! I suggest, just dont waste any time, it is a bug.

At least, it seems that the login doubles only, or has somebody
seen three or more kind of the same login yet?

And both logins work, its like in quantum mechanics, the light
partuscle flips throu either login and evaluates true.. so just
click fast on any login and its nearly like the requester didnt
showed up at all..

I know people can get angry with things like this. Some may push
the keyboard back, grab their maus and start the search for a new
browser, maybe opera has no password manager but other features.

But for myself speaking, things like this dont split me from my
phoenix convincement. I just stand back of myself, after spending
some time to solve the problem, and say, okay now you have
some chrome-url in your pocket, it didnt solve the actual problem
but maybe come handy later, so it wasnt a waste of time was it.

It could all be much worse.. imagine you would end up in some
infinite loop, where you click on a login, than the requester pops
up and you select ok, and then again the two logins come up,
and so on, and you dont get it and click and click and forget
what it all was about?

So its not that tragic. Somewhere in the depths of its code,
phoenix decided to show two logins on the surface, but they
were the same. Its like in the model-view pattern. You look at
two logins, but they represent the same login, so you must
not really care. Just click your way throu to the page you wanna
go to.

this should be fixed in 0.6, when they finish ripping out the old mozilla form manager code, and finish replacing it with satchel.

Have those of you seeing the problem installed a version of mozilla besides phoenix?
If so, you are using different profiles for mozilla and phoenix, aren't you?
The reason that you have the two logins is that for some reason, phoenix loads the mozilla profile as well...

I guess some old code is left and hopefully it will be removed once satchel is in place. I just hope they don't postpone satchel again...
