Word like prevent sujest that you will always be safe. You need a sentence to convey the fact that
a)its only going to clear previous things
b)Its not going to protect you all the time Ie You will have to run it again in the future.

Something like

"History remover"
"sanatize History"
"Clean History"
"Disinfect Firefox"

Also the tooltip/blurb should read something like:
"Clear's data collected in the brouser cache that can be used to track your movement's"

Their are two many sujestions that sujest that this is a constant active feature in the background that will always keep your anonymous

Missus button.. heh..

Anyway, I think it should be something like Track Cleaner or Track Wiper, Track Eraser, etc.. or maybe just 'Privacy'

Privatise reminds me of what the government did to railways and other things.

Maybe Reset Private Data will be a good name to give it.

-ize words are right out. I know there's a UK English build already, but advancing the seventeenth-century spelling of words isn't particularly cute.

I like that one best so far, but it needs to be clear that it's a thing that clears all Firefox privacy information when you close, maybe "Delete All Privacy Information on Close" or have the Delete word replaced with Clear or "Clear All on Close" since it's in the privacy section, the word Privacy in there might be redundant

If Sanitise is really out, Purge would be next on my list.

That doesn't sound like proper english to me.

Clear Private Info sounds better.

Seems to me that the word 'cleaner' is a word that is univerally understood by computer users. It connotes removal of privacy threats eg. history, cookies, saved passwords etc. While it isn't a clever new jargon word by any means it gets the biggest bang for the buck and the user isn't liable to get confused as to its purpose.

Words like wiper etc suggest thoroughness but with some inherent risk ( often appearing with caveats like " Are you sure you want to do this? Problems may occur if...)

Firefox Cleaner or Firefox Privacy Cleaner seems logical, straight forward and unambiguous. Not real exciting though. But for such a sober extension as this you weren't looking for excitement anyway.

(repost from build thread)

I think the Sanitize menu item is stupid because:
  1. The menu item doesn't have obvious meaning, and won't with any new word that will be chosen.
  2. It wil be difficult to localize without excess verbosity.
  3. It reeks of the "boss button" from all those old games we enjoyed. --"the Mrs. button"
The menu item is just asking for Firefox 1.1 reviews mentioning "Firefox 1.1 even has a new feature to hide that donkey porn habit from your spouse or parents quickly and easily! Yay!"

Add a checkbox to the bottom of Sanitize Settings:
[X] Sanitize Firefox when pressing Ctrl+Shift+Del

A buzz-word like "sanitize" isn't even necessary when there's no menu item or toolbar button.

Much more elegant. Much more Firefox-like.
