I have seen display bugs with certain Matrox cards and TNT2 for example.

NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400

It's the original one that came with my Dell 4400.
I have the Drivers updated to the latest.

I skimmed through the thread quickly again...

Do you have Mozi.. er.. Seamonky and/ or Thunderbird? because when I asked what graphics card you have, the display bugs I was thinking of was not just on Firefox but also affected SM/TB.

If you have this double image problem with SM and/or TB, then I would say it is the video card.

First of all, many thanks to all who have offered their time and expertise in helping me find a solution but, alas!

No, I'd never heard of Seamonky until mentioned by jonnyq a couple of posts back. And, I've never had Thunderbird installed.
IE6 and Firefox have been pretty much it for my Browser history.

I've just completed a clean reinstall started yesterday (not an Update) of Firefox 1.0.1. from the:
Sticky: Firefox 1.0.1 - Installation Guidelines & Release notes
Loaded fresh Extensions and Themes, set all my Browser Options (you know the drill).
Checked my (Windows XP) Hardware Wizard to Troubleshoot my nVidia Card, look for Driver Updates and everything comes back that there is NO problem and I have the latest Drivers.

Yet, even with a new install of Firefox, the double image persists.

And just to reiterate it only occurs when I first enable Full-Screen, as has been already been determined, either using F11 (after I had uninstalled the Full Screen Content and also the Autohide Extensions).
So, it's the activation of Full-Screen that triggers this fubar behavior.

So, with all things considered, and the fact that this is not a problem anyone else has been reporting to any extent in these Forums (as far as I can determine) perhaps a Video Card upgrade might be in order.

We can now let this thread fade away into the Sunset.... :-({|=

Having skimmed this thread, I am amazed.

Did Telstar ever try starting FF in safe mode? That is supposed to disable all extensions, plugins, and themes at once. If that solves the problem, then it must be due to one of them. Or is that so obvious it was tried?

Create a new profile:

If you the problem still exists in safe mode or with a new profile, perhaps reinstalling Firefox would help. Can't be sure though...

Actually, due credit to jrzycrim for his suggestion to boot in safe mode in an early reply.

umm... no, I hadn't tried that yet.

The reason I hesitate is, well...I haven't had the reason to boot in safe mode before and I worry about screwing something up. However, the directions are pretty simple so as a last resort, I'll give it a try.

Thanks,

Ok, I was confused by thinking you were asking me to boot my Computer in Safe Mode.

Yes, I did boot Firefox in safe mode and did not get the double image.
It was at that point I started by removing my Extensions and Themes and reloaded them a couple at a time but not pinning down any one Extension or Theme.

Sorry, I misread your intent.

maybe you should post your extensions here, and then maybe we can help you find out if its an extension that's causing this

1) try creating a new profile and install all of your extensions, except TBE, see if that fixes it
2) I think dictionary search and dict do the same thing, so you may wana get rid of one

hope this helps :)

Well, I've already tried it without TBE and it didn't seem to matter if I had TBE installed or not.

Here's another look....
Image

Notice the RIGHT and BOTTOM sides.
And, I never have seen the double image on the LEFT side...
only TOP BOTTOM RIGHT (if this matters).

It's as though one Firefox Browser is laid offset on top of another.

Weird eh?

Oh Brother!

I messed up.

I wanted a Firefox Profile that I could use to add, for example TBE,
and other Extensions one at a time to try and find the culprit.

I decided to go the the Profile Manager (firefox.exe -profilemanager)
after reading instructions to...
Create a Profile
Close Firefox completely (even checked Task Manager>Processes)
Go to Profile Manager
enter firefox.exe -profilemanager
when Profile Manager opens click on Create Profile
I named it as "Test Profile"
Then click on Start Firefox

Ok, I did that.

Then I reversed the procedure to get back to my newly made
Firefox BUT, what opened was the default, the Default Theme,
none of my settings, extensions, etc. just a raw Firefox.

What should have been my complete Firefox is just a Default
version.

I didn't want to do anything else until someone advises me.

Note: I had made a copy of my Profile Folder from
Documents & Settings>User Name>Application Data>Mozilla>Profiles
and have it in a different Folder.

Now is it possible to restore Firefox with all my settings, Bookmarks,
Extensions, etc?

Thanks,

Maybe It's OK now.

I just clicked on the default Profile and it opened to my
new one with all the settings, extensions, etc.

Image

My question(s) is...

Why was I NOT able to simply click on Firefox 1.0.1 3-11-05
and be able to return to my regular Firefox.
Why did I have to click on default?

And, why is Firefox 1.0.1 3-11-05 NOT the same as what I am
now getting with the default?
What happened to my Profile?

Can I safely go back to the Test Profile and start adding TBE, etc. and then be able to safely open default to open my good Firefox?

Can I safely Rename default to Firefox 1.0.1 3-11-05?

So many questions.....
And it all sounds so simple and easy when you follow the
instructions on Creating a New Profile....

A scary moment when I thought I'd lost everything.

OK.

Yesterday when I created the new Profile, Firefox 1.0.1 3-11-05, my feeble little mind thought I was actually "saving" the Firefox I had created up to that point and I could simply return to it.

So, If I understand you correctly...
The default is the one containing all my Bookmarks, Extensions, etc (what I have now) and any other Profile that I "create" is then available for me to "build on"? (please tell me I'm right...I'm getting a headache...lol)

And the default will ALWAYS contain all my recent changes and additions like Extensions, Bookmarks, etc.

Sorry to put you through this.

Try completely uninstalling the almost full screen extension; don't just disable it.
