Third, it can be taken to mean "'i' is on," which is meaningful.

How about...

Tachyon A theoretical subatomic particle that travels faster than light. Small `n fast seems appropriate for Phoenix.

Summary of top 5s so far

Post by djnr »

I went through the 76 first posts in the top 5 names thread and totalled the "votes" for each name. I found a total of 143 unique names, of which only twelve had more than 3 votes.

See the complete list here, sorted by number of "votes" (number of people listing each name as a top 5 choice).

The top 12 so far are:

10* Sphinx
10*Firebird
7*Fox
6*Phox
6*Discovery
5*Px
5*Moebius
5*Dragonfly
5*Athena
4*Zephyr
4*Scamp
4*Quicksilver
4*Oceano

People may want to consider this as they choose their top 5. If you choose a top 5 name that no one else has chosen, chances are slim that it will be in the running unless a really convincing argument is made in the top 5 discussion thread (this one)

I like ION a lot. ; ) Now we must make it a recursive acronym.

Dreki/Drake/Draco - firelizards
Argo - legendary boat = good.
Sphinx - what Flii said
Athena - real classy broad.

I like Phox too, but then we start getting into Phyr3Ph0xx and become 1337.

Hey, if Tempe or Tucson wins, will the road map have to be redrawn?

Clinging on to the name "Phoenix" with things like "Sphinx" and "Firebird" strikes me as pretty dumb. We're changing the name, so we're going to lose the "Phoenix" thing entirely. No need to be all nostalgic about it, it's only up through 0.5.

Sphinx:not a good idea?

Post by geekgirl »

Sphinx software produces web-based communication solutions for clients worldwide at an unbeatable value.

Uh oh. Turns out another software company has a service mark on sphinx. Maybe someone with clout could contact them and make sure using Sphinx is all right, if necessary. IANAL, but I think using a name that someone else in the same industry uses isn't a bright idea.

i fail to see how changing the name to sphinx would be being nostalgic about phoenix. that would be like saying that changing the name of a product from hamburger to mummblurato would be nostalgic because they share some letters. the phoenix -> phnix -> sphinx argument is certainly not why i voted for the name sphinx.
