Firebird, as Flii put well, is a natural progression from Phoenix. Besides, the name still implies it will never die, which is a good thing for a product. For Valkyrie, I like the sound of it, and I am a big Macross fan.
I am verry sorry but i must say none of the names really work for me.
The name has to be one that is recognised by the masses as a browser. See the filosophy behind the explorer and navigator names. That is why i came up with the name
Compass or Kompas
whatever you want to spell it (english or dutch).
The name fits in the row:
explorer , navigator, compass
And every explorer and navigator has a compass to guide them
...oh, and to whoever suggested it, I'll install ANY software if you call it TheMelvins!!! any band who's modus operandi is to "screw with people" ought to have their own software! ...ooh, modus operandi... now there's a name for ya.
sphinx is a total turn off for me.

Valkyrie is cool. The best for me.
I like Naples and Oceano too.
Thanks for agreeing! Firebird also reminds me of this Japanese anime cartoon called "Gatcha Man."

I'm gonna have to come cast my two cents AGAINST two of the more popular names here.
1) Firebird IS a terribly bland and generic and uninspired name. Please God don't let it win.
2) Sphinx does sound like sphincter. Wayne's World, anybody???

If "Firebird" is so bland and generic, what makes "Phoenix" not so? I agree it's not the fanciest name in the world, but I contend it's not nearly as bad as you make it sound.

Someone mentioned "Lynx" in his list. It does sound cool, except there's already a browser called Lynx...
