What techniques did you use to make XUL faster in Phoenix?

I have heard many of the Phoenix developers state that they are proving that XUL can be used to create full-featured apps, but they never go into the details of how they use XUL differently than in Mozilla. I am a XUL developer who has learned XUL by reading the Mozilla source code; what exactly are you doing different in Phoenix with XUL to gain increased performance? I looked through the Phoenix code a bit and see differences with the Moz code, but I can't tell if these differences are merely different coding styles, such as not using as many overlays, or if these are the performance techniques you are using. What are the Phoenix secrets?
